Though we’ve not had anything from BATTLESTAR GALACTICA mastermind Ronald D. Moore since CAPRICA’s cancellation in 2010, the writer/producer has had numerous irons in the fire including a TV spin-off of the 2001 movie A KNIGHT’S TALE, an adaptation of Diana Gabaldon’s CROSS STITCH and an unnecessary sequel to I, ROBOT. While we wait to hear about the progress of those, Moore’s arctic-based thriller HELIX has now been given the greenlight by Syfy. For those unfamiliar, the concept of HELIX revolves around a team of scientists who travel to a research lab deep in the heart of the Antarctic to investigate a potentially Earth-threatening disease that must be contained at all costs.

Syfy were so impressed by HELIX that they skipped the pilot process all together in favour of a straight series order – sounds like we could be in for something very special indeed.

We’ll have more on HELIX as it develops…
