Fifteen years after starring opposite Edward Norton in The Incredible Hulk, Liv Tyler is making her return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming Captain America: New World Order.

Tyler will reprise the role of scientist Betty Ross, the daughter of General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross – the latter of whom was played by the late William Hurt in several past films, and who will henceforth be portrayed by Harrison Ford.

Though The Incredible Hulk tends to be forgotten about when discussing the MCU, the film was indeed part of Marvel’s Phase 1 and is canon. The 2008 origin film starred Norton as Bruce Banner/The Hulk, though Mark Ruffalo would take over the role in The Avengers after Norton’s exit from the franchise.

Liv Tyler did not appear in any other MCU feature after that, but other characters from The Incredible Hulk would return to the franchise over the years: as mentioned, Hurt’s Ross appeared in several features and played an important role in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, while Tim Roth’s Abomination was a key character in the Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Tim Blake Nelson, who played Samuel Sterns in the 2008 film, is also returning for Captain America 4.

Liv Tyler and the others join Anthony Mackie in the lead as Sam Wilson/The Falcon-now-Captain America, as well as Carl Lumbly as super-soldier Isaiah Bradley, Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres, and Shira Haas. The Cloverfield Paradox director Julius Onah is helming the film, which is due to release on May 3rd 2024.
