Donald Glover, also known as his stage name Childish Gambino, is set to star in and produce a Spider-Man feature – just not the one you’d expect. Though fans have campaigned to see the Atlanta actor don the spidey mask since long before he even voiced Spider-Man/Miles Morales in the Disney XD series Ultimate Spider-Man, Glover is instead attached to play the Hypno-Hustler, one of the obscurer Spider-Man villains.
Myles Murphy will write the project, which will take place in Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man universe of Marvel characters. Premiering in 1978 as the leader of a band called the Mercy Killers, Hypno-Hustler – real name Antoine Delsoin – uses hypnosis technology in his musical instruments to rob his audience. Nothing else is known about the direction of the project.
Donald Glover also made a brief appearance in Spider-Man: Homecoming, where a deleted scene suggested he was the uncle of Miles Morales, another Spidey alum. Nothing has yet come of that MCU cameo.
This Hypno-Hustler feature is the latest project being lined up by Sony for its Spider-Man universe franchise, which already counts Venom and Morbius among its family members. The studio also has Kraven the Hunter set for release in October 2023 as well as Madame Web.
