Parks and Recreation and Severance star Adam Scott is the latest addition to Madame Web’s cast, the upcoming film in Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters franchise. Deadline was the first to report the news.

S.J. Clarkson directs with Dakota Johnson in the lead role, with Emma Roberts, Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, and Tahar Rahim also aboard in undisclosed roles. Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (the duo behind the mythical line, “It’s Morbin’ time”) penned the screenplay from a previous draft written by Kerem Sanga.

All we know so far of Clarkson’s film is that it will be an origin story of the clairvoyant mutant whose psychic abilities allow her to see into the ‘spider world’. With casting still ongoing, fans will likely have to wait a little longer before plot and character details start to be unveiled.

But Madame Web won’t be the next Sony superhero film post-Morbius; it will be preceded by J.C. Chandor’s Kraven the Hunter starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, which is set for release on January 13th, 2023. Madame Web will head to cinemas on July 7th, 2023 – should everything go to plan, anyway.

Adam Scott recently landed a Best Actor Emmy nomination for his performance in Severance, the critically acclaimed, absurdist Apple TV+ series, for which he received some career-best reviews.
