Orphan’s Esther (Isabelle Fuhrman, who reprises her 2009 role and looks extra creepy thanks to the digital de-ageing) returns to the big screen in Orphan: First Kill, for which the first official trailer has recently been released.
She will kill to be part of a family, promises the trailer. Esther’s secret may be out (spoiler if you haven’t seen the original), but this prequel looks no less thrilling knowing what we know of the “child”‘s true nature.
After orchestrating her escape from an Estonian psychiatric facility that housed her, Esther hides in plain sight by assuming the identity of a missing American child whose mother Tricia (Julia Stiles) is the matriarch of one of the wealthiest families in the United States.
However, the plot summary promises an “unexpected twist” that will pit her against a mother who will go to any length to protect her family.
Orphan: First Kill is directed by William Brent Bell (Stay Alive, The Devil Inside, The Boy), with a screenplay by David Coggeshall from a story by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and Alex Mace. The horror-thriller also stars Rossif Sutherland, Hiro Kanagawa, and Matthew Finlan.
Orphan: First Kill releases in UK cinemas from August 19th, whereas it will be available in the United States via Paramount+. Watch the trailer below:
