As Universal Pictures plans out their shared monster movie-verse, now comes an update on their new take on Bride of Frankenstein.

As per Deadline, the studio is in talks with Bill Condon to direct Bride of Frankenstein. As well as helming Disney’s recent live-action Beauty and the Beast, Condon also grabbed an Oscar in 1998 for Gods and Monsters – a film that served as a biopic of James Whale, director of the original Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein.

Previously, Universal were looking at getting Angelina Jolie on board to star in and direct their new take on Bride of Frankenstein, although now it appears as if they have their eyes set on bringing Condon into the fold. Whether Jolie is still the frontrunner to play the titular Bride, we’ll have to wait and see.

Bride of Frankenstein is party of a shared monster movie universe that begins this June with The Mummy. From there, Johnny Depp has already signed on to star in The Invisible Man, Dwayne Johnson is wanted to headline The Wolfman, Javier Bardem is the top choice to play the monster in Frankenstein, and the likes of Van Helsing and Creature From the Black Lagoon are also in development.
