Sadly, the new Wonka trailer was screened for CinemaCon audiences only, but the preview for Paul King‘s musical showed off an unexpected twist: Hugh Grant playing an Oompa-Loompa.

In the first Wonka trailer, which stars Timothée Chalamet as the chocolate aficionado, Willy Wonka must face off against a chocolate cartel that wants to prevent him from practicing his craft. Cue a fantastical adventure filled with singing, dancing, and wildly imaginative (perhaps deadly) chocolate confections. Narcos ain’t got nothing on this.

Chalamet stars opposite Calah Lane, Olivia Colman, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, Keegan-Michael Key, Colin O’Brien, Matt Lucas, Simon Farnaby, Natasha Rothwell, Rufus Jones and more. Warner Bros. has described the prequel — the film takes place before the events of Roald Dahl’s 1964 children’s novel,  Charlie and the Chocolate Factory — as a “vivid, mythical beginnings of the imaginative young inventor before he becomes the renowned scrumdiddlyumptious Mozart of chocolate.”

Yes, we agree that this doesn’t give us much to go on, but Chalamet’s promise that the film is “so sincere” and “so joyous” has certainly dashed our hopes it might be a villain origin story for how a boy became a slave-owner and child-torturer.

Wonka will release on December 15th. Stay tuned for when the trailer is finally released to the internet masses.
