Fox’s GOTHAM has found its Jim Gordon! With the show initially thought to focus on the young Gordon struggling to fight against the corruption he sees all around him in Gotham City, it’s now been confirmed that Ben McKenzie will be playing the future Commissioner Gordon. McKenzie is best known for his roles in THE O.C. and SOUTHLAND, although it’s also worth noting that the 35-year-old actor voiced Bruce Wayne and Batman in 2011’s animated BATMAN: YEAR ONE, a story that involves Jim Gordon nearly as much as it does Batman.

Taking to Twitter, McKenzie said of the news, “All I can promise is I will do my best not to screw this up. Can’t wait to get to work.”

As mentioned, it was initially believed that GOTHAM would focus on a young Gordon trying his best to clean up the dirty streets of Gotham City. We then got word that a young, as in 10-years-old, Bruce Wayne would appear in the pilot as we find Gordon working on the case of the deaths of Martha and Thomas Wayne. Despite the show currently only at the pilot stage, it was then revealed that the endgame of the series would be to have Bruce Wayne donning the cape and cowl for the first time. It was also confirmed that some familiar Bat-villains, such as The Riddler, Penguin and Catwoman, would be making appearances at some point.

The pilot’s script has been written by THE MENTALIST’s Bruno Heller, who will also serve as executive producer. CSI and NIKITA’s Danny Cannon is directing the pilot, which is expected to hit towards the middle of this year.
