Preacher TV News

It has been announced by AMC and Sony TV that the television series PREACHER is being developed, with old high school buddies and comedy writing superteam Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg to be the brains behind the operation.

PREACHER is based on the comic from the ’90s by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon. To use the exact words of the press release:

PREACHER follows Reverend Jesse Custer, a tough Texas preacher who has lost his faith, has learned that God has left Heaven and abandoned His responsibilities. He finds himself the only person capable of tracking God down, demanding answers, and making Him answer for His dereliction of duty. Accompanying Jesse on his journey is his former girlfriend and a friendly vampire who seems to prefer a pint in the pub to the blood of the innocent. On his tail is one of the most iconic bad guys in print – an immortal, unstoppable killing machine named the Saint of Killers – a western lone gunman archetype whose sole purpose is to hunt and kill Jesse.

There was some leak of a rumour on the internet back in November of the development of this comic to television adaptation, but it is only now that this press release makes it official. But it’s not just a spur of the moment thing, Rogen and Goldberg have been trying to get PREACHER made for some time.

“This is amazing! We’ve tried for seven years to work on PREACHER and we’re so psyched AMC is finally letting us. It is our favorite comic of all time, and we’re going to do everything we can to do it right. Humperdoo!

Not only are Rogen and Goldberg on board to write and exec. produce, but Sam Catlin of BREAKING BAD will serve as the series showrunner.

Let’s hope that Rogen and Goldberg’s faith and commitment in PREACHER will reflect another good quality show by AMC.
