Two of the major players in the last thirty years of genre entertainment, David Cronenberg and Sam Raimi are getting together to produce a television show. Cronenberg and Raimi will be credited as Executive Producers on KNIFEMAN with Cronenberg directing the pilot episode.

KNIFEMAN is based on the novel by Wendy Moore and follows a self-educated and unorthodox surgeon as he goes to extreme lengths to uncover the secrets of the human body. So it sounds right up Cronenberg’s alley. The show is written by Emmy award winner Rolin Jones (FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS). It’s not clear yet which network will pick this up or if it will make it past pilot stage.

Lately Cronenberg has been concerned with serious drama in films like A DANGEROUS METHOD and EASTERN PROMISES. Whilst those films have been good, horror fans yearn for him to get back to his ‘body horror’ roots. KNIFEMAN could be just the ticket, sounding like something Cronenberg would have done early in his career and the fact that he is also a producer means a level of control over the material.

Can’t wait to see where this goes…
