With Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens to hit screens at the end of the year, attention is now starting to switch towards Star Wars: Episode VIII. Now comes talk on who’s up for the female lead of the second part of this new Star Wars trilogy.

The Wrap is reporting that the three names in the frame for the female lead of Rian Johnson’s Episode VIII are Jane the Virgin’s Gina Rodriguez, Orphan Black’s Tatiana Maslany, and Bates Motel’s brilliant Olivia Cooke. All three are believed to be lined up to do a reading alongside The Force Awakens’ John Boyega over the next few weeks.

No details are known on Episode VIII at this stage, with a lot obviously depending on how things play out in J.J. Abrams’ Episode VII. What we do know is that Benicio Del Toro is close to signing on as the villain of Episode VIII, but that’s about it right now.

Star Wars: Episode VIII is currently set for a May 26th, 2017 release, although first up is Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens on December 18th of this year.
