The Conjuring universe is expanding once again, with news that Peter Safran is developing a drama series based on New Line Cinema’s horror movie franchise. The untitled series is in development for Max, the newly combined streaming service that joins HBO Max and Warner Bros. Discovery Plus; the series announcement was made at the unveiling of the new service.

The series will reportedly “continue the story established in the feature films.” James Wan, who directed both The Conjuring and The Conjuring 2, is also in talks to executive produce this spinoff. Since it’s very early days on the project, no further information is available about the story’s focus or who else might be attached.

Safran and Wan have a long history of collaboration, having worked together on both the Conjuring films and on Aquaman and the upcoming Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

The Conjuring universe so far includes seven films: the three main movies starring Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren (The Conjuring, The Conjuring 2, and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It), plus three films about supernatural doll Annabelle (Annabelle, Annabelle: Creation, and Annabelle Comes Home) and soon-to-be two films based around the demonic nun from The Conjuring 2. The next film, The Nun 2, releases to cinemas on September 8th.
