The Acolyte might still be filming, but that didn’t stop the powers that be from unveiling a teaser trailer for the upcoming series at the Star Wars Celebration event. The series, set 100 years before the events of the George Lucas prequels, will be based around an era known as the High Republic, a Golden Age of sorts for Jedis.

The team behind the series was also on-hand to offer new details about the project. Show creator Leslye Headland revealed that she had originally pitched the series to Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy as “Frozen meets Kill Bill,” and said The Acolyte was set before the prequels in a time “when the bad guys are outnumbered. They are the underdogs.”

Also on the stage were cast members Amandla Stenberg, Dafne Keen, Jodie Turner-Smith, Carrie Anne Moss, Lee Jung-jae and Joonas Suotamo (who played Chewbacca in recent Star Wars movies), this time playing a Wookie Jedi master.

The trailer opened with Lee Jung-Jae’s Jedi Master teaching a class of young students at a Jedi Temple, and showed Moss and Stenberg crossing lightsabers in a scuffle.

The series will release in 2024 and, while the The Acolyte trailer was exclusive to convention attendees, you can be sure we’ll keep you apprised of further developments.
