One of the many upcoming Star Wars features has found a new writer in Peaky Blinders creator and Spencer scribe Steven Knight. Knight will develop the script for director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, who also helmed several episodes of Disney+’s Ms. Marvel.

The move comes after the departures of both Lost’s Damon Lindelof and writer Justin Britt-Gibson from the project. Sources close to the project have reported that the Star Wars feature would take place after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

No release date has yet been set for the movie, though Disney has an unnamed Star Wars feature scheduled for December 19th, 2025. News of Steven Knight ‘s hiring comes just weeks ahead of Lucasfilm’s Star Wars Celebration in London, where the studio is expected to unveil more of its upcoming plans.

Lucasfilm’s Star Wars slate has been in near-constant flux for the last few years, with multiple projects being developed, scheduled, then put on the back burner or moved around. Several high-profile features have also been shelved – among them, Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron, which should have opened in December 2022 but was delayed and eventually removed from active development. There’s also a Kevin Feige-produced film intended to be written by Loki’s Michael Waldron, which was shelved. A Taika Waititi-directed project from screenwriter Krysty Wilson-Cairns and another by Shawn Levy remain in development, and two untitled Star Wars features dated for (as previously mentioned) December 2025, and December 2027. And that’s not to mention the television series!
