Before we go any further, we guess it’s fair to say that potential spoilers for last year’s Split lie ahead. If you’ve not seen M. Night Shyamalan’s James McAvoy-starrer, you might want to turn back now.

You’ve been warned…

Right, in a move that genuinely shocked us all, the end of Shyamalan’s Split saw it revealed that the film itself was essentially a sequel to 2000’s Unbreakable. As Split came to a close, the final moments saw Bruce Willis’ Unbreakable character David Dunn appear, setting up a future meeting between him and McAvoy’s Kevin Wendell Crumb and this various personalities.

Now, Shyamalan has taken to Twitter to confirm that he is indeed working on a sequel to both Unbreakable and Split, which will be titled Glass and will be released on January 18th, 2019. As well as Willis and McAvoy, the director has also confirmed that Samuel L. Jackson and Anya Taylor Joy will reprise their Unbreakable and Split roles, respectively, and that Shyamalan will be teaming with Jason Blum and Universal Pictures for the film.

Having wowed us all with The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable, Shyamalan’s output lost a little of its luster with so-so efforts like Signs, The Village, Lady in the Water, and After Earth, although the director had started to win over some doubters with 2015’s The Visit before last year’s Split saw him once again returning to the heights of his earlier impressive success.

Mark Glass down for 2019, and mark us excited for what is hopefully a long-term return to form for someone who was at one point one of the hottest names in genre cinema.
