Well, well, well. After this morning brought word of Sony Pictures confirming Masters of the Universe for a December 2019 release, now comes an update on who’ll be directing He-Man’s return to the big screen.

It was previously announced – to the disappointment of many – that McG was directing this upcoming redo, and that was believed to be the case upon this week’s announcement of a release date for the film. Now, though, it’s being reported by EW that McG is no longer a part of the project (hurray!), and that Sony have instead brought in David Goyer to work on an entirely new draft that is aiming to bring in some A-list names.

Having dished out a couple of Charlie’s Angels movies and the awful Terminator Salvation, seeing McG attached to Masters of the Universe was a more worrying prospect for Eternia than any nefarious scheme that Skeletor could ever dream up.

As ever, expect more on all of this as we get it.

Masters of the Universe is set for a December 18, 2019 release.
