Following on from the earlier news of DAMIEN getting a six-episode full season order, now comes word from Deadline that Martin Scorsese’s SHUTTER ISLAND is the latest horror property to be adapted for the small screen.

The report claims that the show is tentatively being referred to as ASHECLIFFE, which is the name of the mental hospital that’s so heavily featured in the story. Dennis Lehane, who wrote the original novel that the movie was based on, is writing the script for the show’s pilot. Even more interesting, Scorsese himself is currently in talks to direct the pilot episode.

In terms of plot, the series will take place before the events of the 2010 movie, focussing on the central hospital and the misdemeanours carried out by its founders.
