Paul Walter Hauser has joined the cast of director Zach Cregger’s upcoming Resident Evil feature. The actor, who just this summer has appeared in both Naked Gun and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, will star alongside previously confirmed actor Austin Abrams in Sony Pictures’ new take on the beloved horror franchise. The feature is expected to infect cinemas on September 18th, 2026.

Cregger, who was behind the hit horror Weapons just last month, will direct Resident Evil from a script he is co-writing with Shay Hatten  (John Wick: Chapter 4, Army of the Dead).

The previous Resident Evil films, based on the Capcom video games, followed the adventures of a heroine who fights zombies and the Umbrella Corporation, the biowarfare company that let loose the undead. Though plot details have not yet been revealed, this latest film is said to have elements of a wilderness survival thriller.

Constantin Film is producing and co-financing the film. Producers include Robert Kulzer, Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, and PlayStation Productions.

Paul Walter Hauser is a comedian and actor known for having portrayed key roles in award-winning films like I, Tonya, BlacKKKlansman, Da 5 Bloods, and for his lead performance in Richard Jewell. He will next be seen in Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere.
