Jack Black and Paul Rudd are having a hard time wrestling snakes in the trailer for Sony’s comedy reboot of Anaconda. The reimagining of the 1997 movie is being directed by Tom Gormican (The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent) from a script he co-wrote with Kevin Etten, and will be released in cinemas on Christmas Day. Selton Mello, Daniel Melchior, Thandiwe Newton, Steve Zahn and Ione Skye are also starring.

The new Anaconda focuses on a group of friends who are obsessed with the ’90s film and set out to shoot their own version, complete with a giant snake. “This is Anaconda, and we no longer have a snake for our snake movie,” Black announces in the trailer after Rudd accidentally decapitates their scaly co-star. “We have to go out in the jungle and find another one.”

Black plays a former director now stuck as a wedding videographer, while Rudd plays an actor who did a stint on a cop show but sees his Hollywood dreams slipping away. Newton and Zahn are other childhood friends who join them in the adventure, while Mello will play an animal wrangler.

Luis Llosa directed the original Anaconda, with a cast that included Jennifer Lopez, Owen Wilson, Ice Cube and Jon Voight. Spawning several sequels, the first movie focused on a National Geographic film crew hunting for the world’s biggest and deadliest snake.
