THE BOONDOCK SAINTS Break Out Of Jail For A Third Outing

norman reedus and sean patrick flanery returning for third the boondock saints film

The Boondock Saints are back! The rebirth of the 1999 cult actioner is officially upon us, with Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery returning as the fraternal Irish twins, the MacManus brothers, who raise holy hell to rid their Boston hometown of all criminals. Billy Connolly played their father in the original and the 2009 sequel The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day.

Troy Duffy (who wrote and directed the movies) is reportedly stepping down from the director’s chair, so the search is on for a new director. Thunder Road, the production banner behind the John Wick franchise, has stepped in and joined rights holder Dragonfly Films to get this third film made. Deadline first reported the news.

‘When we were given the opportunity to help bring the MacManus brothers back to the screen, we jumped at the chance. The unique possibility of building on the iconic mythology and characters for all the long-time fans of the series, as well as opening it up to a whole new generation, is one that we couldn’t be more excited about,’ said Basil Iwanyk, of Thunder Road Films.

Reedus commented: “I can’t wait for everyone to see what we have long been working toward. We are pressing on without our longtime friend and Captain, Troy Duffy on this one. He has decided to write a Boondock Saints book series and I can’t wait to read it.” Flanery, meanwhile, stated: “Basil and Todd [Myers, of Dragonfly Films] are the perfect partners to bust the brothers out of prison. With Basil and Todd at the helm, this will be the best Saints yet. So now it’s time for the brothers to break out the pea coats, re-load, and get back to work.”

caitlin cronenberg horror humane debuts trailer

Oh, to have grown up in the Cronenberg household… after David Cronenberg’s son Brandon blessed us with sci-fi horror Possessor and Infinity Pool, now the horror master’s daughter, Caitlin Cronenberg is making her own way into genre filmmaking with Humane, for which the official trailer has just released.

The film is described as a dystopian satire taking place over a single day, months after a global ecological collapse has forced world leaders to take extreme measures to reduce the earth’s population. Which is to say, implementing a program that requires 20% of the global population to volunteer to die.

Humane takes place in “a wealthy enclave, where a recently retired newsman has invited his grown children to dinner to announce his intentions to enlist in the nation’s new euthanasia program. But when the father’s plan goes horribly awry, tensions flare and chaos erupts among his children.”

Jay Baruchel (Blackberry, This is the End), Emily Hampshire (12 Monkeys, Schitt’s Creek), Peter Gallagher (Covert Affairs, Grace and Frankie), Sebastian Chacon (Emergency), Alanna Bale (Sort Of, Cardinal), Sirena Gulamgaus (Transplant), and Enrico Colantoni (Veronica Mars) star, with a script from Michael Sparaga.

Humane will receive a cinematic run courtesy of IFC Films on April 26th, before coming home to Shudder three months later, on July 26th. “With ‘Humane,’ Caitlin has delivered a wickedly smart, humorous and socially relevant thriller with exceptional performances from its outstanding cast,” said Emily Gotto, Shudder’s VP of global acquisitions & co-productions. “We can’t wait to share this chilling, prescient satire with Shudder members.”

ALIEN: ROMULUS Gets First Teaser Trailer

first teaser trailer for fede alvarez alien franchise film, alien: romulus

Filmmaker Fede Álvarez and Disney have released the very first teaser trailer for the much-anticipated Alien: Romulus, which re-establishes the look and feel of the sci-fi classics Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986). What’s even more cause for excitement? The fact that the directors behind said classics, Ridley Scott and James Cameron, have already proclaimed their love for Romulus.

The film takes place between Alien and Aliens, and focuses on a group of twenty-something space colonisers and scavengers who have the misfortune of meeting a Xenomorph inside a dilapidated space station. The film is led by Civil War and Priscilla star Cailee Spaeny, Isabela Merced, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Álvarez explained that the idea to follow younger people in this world came from an Aliens deleted scene that Cameron eventually restored in his extended Special Edition cut. “There’s a moment where you see a bunch of kids running [and riding a big wheel] around the corridors of this colony. And I thought, ‘Wow, what would it be like for those kids to grow up in a colony that still needs another 50 years to terraform?’ So I remember thinking, ‘If I ever tell a story in that world, I would definitely be interested in those kids when they reach their early twenties.’”

Alien: Romulus will release in cinemas on August 16th, 2024. Watch the teaser trailer below:

Almost a decade after 2015’s Fury Road zoomed onto screens, fans return to George Miller‘s dystopian desert with Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, for which a new trailer has been released.

The film, which stars Anya Taylor-Joy as the titular Furiosa (played in Fury Road by Charlize Theron) and Chris Hemsworth, acts as a prequel to Fury Road. Miller is back in the director’s seat with a script he co-wrote with Nico Lathouris.

In Furiosa, “45 years after the collapse, a young Furiosa is taken from her family. She will devote the rest of her life to finding her way home. This is her odyssey.” The official logline provides further details: As the world fell, young Furiosa (Taylor-Joy) is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus (Hemsworth). Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe.  While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.

TEEN TITANS Live-Action Film Is A-Go!

Teen Titans Go!… to the brand-new DC Universe.

The young superhero team, which began life as the teenage sidekicks of their more famous and grownup counterparts, are getting their time in the live-action spotlight, courtesy of the James Gunn and Peter Safran-led DC Studios.

Warner Bros. Discovery have recruited Ana Nogueira to pen the screenplay for the feature, which marks her second project with the comic book division of WB. She was previously announced to be writing the Milly Alcock-starring Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. THR broke the news of Nogueira’s involvement.

The new Gunn/Safran DC Universe roster already includes films like next year’s Superman, the Batman-led Brave and the Bold, as well as television series like the animated Creature Commandos and the Themyscira-set Paradise Lost. Gunn and Safran’s new path for the DC universe on screen will begin later this year with the seven-episode show Creature Commandos, and continues with 2025’s Superman starring David Corenswet.

First introduced in comics in the 1960s, the Titans included Robin, Superboy, Kid Flash, Aqualad and Wonder Girl. Today however, the characters most famously associated with the team are Robinn, Cyborg, Raven, Starfire, and Beast Boy, thanks to the popular animated 2003 series Teen Titans, as well as the 2013 cartoon Teen Titans Go! (which spawned the 2018 film Teen Titans Go! To the Movies) and the grittier 2018 series Titans by Akiva Goldsman.

Netflix has revealed the official trailer for the second part of Zack Snyder’s sci-fi epic, Rebel Moon, which is titled Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver and will release on the streaming platform April 19th, four months after Part One premiered.

Per the official synopsis, “Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver continues the epic saga of Kora [Sofia Boutella] and the surviving warriors as they prepare to sacrifice everything, fighting alongside the brave people of Veldt, to defend a once peaceful village, a newfound homeland for those who have lost their own in the fight against the Motherworld. On the eve of their battle the warriors must face the truths of their own pasts, each revealing why they fight. As the full force of the Realm bears down on the burgeoning rebellion, unbreakable bonds are forged, heroes emerge, and legends are made.”

Stars Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman, Doona Bae and Anthony Hopkins return for Part Two.

Rebel Moon co-writer Kurt Johnstad previously told The Hollywood Reporter of Part Two: “I would say that it’s definitely its own movie, and it’s a very different movie. It’s not an assembly of the team. The team is built, and now it’s why they fight. I think [the PG-13 cut] is two hours, or maybe it’s more, but it’s a nonstop action roller-coaster ride of twists and turns. And the ending is spectacular.”

Blood & Honey Was Just The Start… Welcome To The POOHNIVERSE

winnie-the-pooh: blood and honey to launch the poohniverse: monsters assemble

None of your childhood friends are safe: the makers of the gory slashers Winnie-The-Pooh: Blood and Honey 1 & 2 are branching off into a shared cinematic world, the Poohniverse.

A.A. Milne’s characters (and others!) are going full Avengers, with news that low-budget genre labels Jagged Edge Productions and ITN Films are planning another slasher horror pic, Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble, due to shoot this year ahead of a 2025 release.

“It will be complete carnage. We are heavily influenced by Freddy Vs Jason and The Avengers. We would love to see a horror movie where the villains group together and are going after their survivors. We have some incredible set pieces in mind and some sequences I think will truly shock people,” Jagged Edge producer Rhys Frake-Waterfield wrote in a statement.

Blood and Honey featured a 6-foot Pooh and Piglet going on a murder spree through the Hundred Acre Wood after being abandoned by Christopher Robin, only to go feral from the neglect. In Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble, which Frake-Waterfield will direct, all our childhood faves, including Pooh, Tigger, Rabbit, Owl, Piglet, Pinocchio, Sleeping Beauty, Bambi, The Mad Hatter, Peter Pan and Tinkerbell join forces to wreak havoc.

Until then, fans can look forward to Winnie-The-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2, which lands in US cinemas on March 26th.

The Muschiettis Launch Horror Label NOCTURNA With Skydance

andy and barbara muschietti, aka the muschiettis, teaming with skydance for horror label nocturna

The It-team are joining forces with Skydance to launch a brand new horror division named Nocturna, THR reports. The brother-sister filmmaking duo known as the Muschiettis – Andy and Barbara Muschietti – were behind the Stephen King feature adaptations, It and It: Chapter Two, as well as last year’s less-than-stellar The Flash, and will co-own the label and dictate its creative direction.

The focus of Nocturna will reportedly be on high quality, genre features for global audiences in both theatrical and streaming, with the aim of producing two films each year. Their first project has already been announced: They Will Kill You, written by Kirill Sokolov and Alex Litvak and directed by Sokolov. It’s described as a horror feature about a woman who answers a help wanted ad to be a housekeeper in a mysterious high-rise in NYC, not realising that she is entering a community that has seen a number of disappearances over recent years.

“Under this label, we are excited to deliver the full range of emotions that our movies pack: Heart, humor and horror,” said the Muschiettis in a statement. The division will be run by Russell Ackerman and John Schoenfelder, who will act as co-heads of film. Both executives have plenty of genre experience, having produced films like 2018’s Hold the Dark and 2021’s Séance.

“Andy and Barbara are visionary filmmakers who have mastered the art of scary event movies that connect with global audiences, and David and I along with the entire Skydance team are thrilled to partner with them on the launch of Nocturna,” said Dana Goldberg, Skydance chief creative officer. “It’s fitting that They Will Kill You will be our first project as it perfectly encapsulates Nocturna’s mission of delivering unique and entertaining horror experiences that will live in the audiences’ nightmares for years.”
