Mark Gatiss to Star in BLOOD ON SATAN’S CLAW from Bafflegab

Bafflegab Productions
has just announced the first day of recording has happened on a new audio
production of Blood on Satan’s Claw, starring Mark Gatiss and Reece Shearsmith.
The original film was released back in 1971 and starred (amongst others) Linda
Hayden, who also returns for this production. The new cast also includes Alice
Lowe (Sightseers, Prevenge), John Heffernan (Ripper Street, Jonathan Strange
and Mr Norrell), Ralph Ineson (The Witch, The Office) and Philip Hill-Pearson
(Shameless, Good Cop).

Although some recording has happened, Bafflegab will be
launching a crowdfunding campaign with details announced on their website and Facebook
pages.

Mark Gatiss is a big fan of the original, and says: “I
first saw Blood on Satan’s Claw in the Friday night horror slot on Tyne Tees
television, when I was a kid. I remember it vividly because it scared the life
out of me. It’s so distinctly different. The pitch for the film is so strange,
and it’s very much in that folk horror tradition: dark, bucolic, earthy and
genuinely disquieting. It’s a fabulous tale.”

Scriptwriter Mark Morris adds: “I was first captivated by its
unsettling, nightmarish atmosphere at the age of 12 or 13, since when it’s been
one of my favourite horror films. I leaped at the chance, therefore, to adapt
and expand the original screenplay for this new audio version, and from day one
this has been a real labour of love. The calibre of the cast we’ve been able to
attract to the project is phenomenal, and a testament to the film’s enduring
impact. Blood on Satan’s Claw is back – and I’m incredibly proud, this time
around, to be a part of it.”

If you’re unfamiliar with the original, Blood on Satan’s Claw sits alongside Witchfinder General and The
Wicker Man
as one of the three films which make up the subgenre known as
folk horror. In it, a village in 17th Century England is overcome by a Satanic
plague after a hideous skull is found in the furrows of a farmer’s field. The
village youth fall quickly under the devil’s spell and retreat to the woodland
to conduct games of sexual violence and sacrifice.

Fans of the original should rest assured this new audio
adaptation is true to the film. As Linda Hayden concludes: “It’s lovely working with Reece
Shearsmith and Mark Gatiss, as they’re huge fans of the film. I’m really
honoured. It was always a really atmospheric piece, and the script to this new
audio really captures that.”

Jon Watts in Talks for SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING

With Tom Holland’s Web-head having now seen his first solo movie swing to the big screen, we already know that there’s plenty of future outings planned for this latest cinematic Spidey. And now comes an update on the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel.

Via The Hollywood Reporter, Homecoming director Jon Watts is currently in talks to return for the Homecoming sequel. Given how amazing – or should that be ‘spectacular’ or ‘superior’, maybe? – a job Cop Car helmer Watts did with the Wall-crawler, it’s not exactly a huge surprise to hear that Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures are keen to have Watts return to tackle Spidey once more.

Having been on release for a fortnight now, Spider-Man: Homecoming has already brought in an impressive $470 million at the global box office. While we know that Holland’s Spider-Man will be present in next May’s Avengers: Infinity War and its May 2019 follow-up, Holland is also signed up for two further solo outings as Spidey.

As ever, expect more on July 2019’s Homecoming sequel as it continues to develop.

New BODY SNATCHERS Movie in Development

In terms of multiple versions being out there, Jack Finney’s 1954 classic The Body Snatchers has been adapted more times than we care to remember. And now, another new take on this classic tale is in the works.

As per Deadline, Warner Brothers has started to move things forward on a new version of Body Snatchers by bringing in David Leslie Johnson to pen the film’s screenplay. Johnson’s previous credits include the likes of Orphan and The Conjuring 2.

Previously, Finney’s The Body Snatchers was developed as a movie with 1956’s Invasion of the Body Snatchers. After that, 1978 famously saw another movie of the same name arrive, and then 1993 saw Abel Ferrara direct his own take with Body Snatchers. But that wasn’t all, for 2007 saw yet another version – titled simply The Invasion – dished out.

For those unfamiliar with this property, the basic premise sees a small town invaded by aliens that look to replicate the humans who live or lived in the same locale. As the aliens begin to multiply, a local doctor has the unenviable task of tackling this menace… all while never knowing who is real or who is simply a copycat alien intent of destruction.

Premiere Set for THE WALKING DEAD’s Season 8

With the ongoing San Diego Comic-Con having so often been the place where all kinds of big news has been revealed in past years, one of the first major nuggets to come out of this year’s event is the announcement of the premiere date for The Walking Dead’s eighth season.

As revealed by AMC, The Walking Dead will return to screens on October 22nd in the US. That episode will be both the season premiere and the show’s 100th outing – meaning we should hopefully get a belter of an episode. In terms of a UK premiere for Season 8, nothing officially has been announced on that front just yet, although it’s expected that the show will return to UK screens just a day after the US airing.

Elsewhere, Fear the Walking Dead has been confirmed to air its Season 3 mid-season premiere on September 10th.
