Reid Scott in Talks to Join VENOM

As the cast of Sony Pictures’ Venom continues to flesh out, the picture is in talks to bring Reid Scott in to the fold.

Courtesy of Variety, the Veep star is currently in negotiations for an unknown role in the Tom Hardy-starrer. In addition to Hardy as the titular Eddie Brock, the film also has Michelle Williams, Jenny Slate and Riz Ahmed filling out its cast at this stage.

To be directed by Zombieland’s Ruben Fleischer, the current plan is for Venom to hit the big screen on October 5th, 2018. The film will be part of Sony’s shared Spider-verse of films that will also include the Silver Sable and Black Cat team-up effort, Silver and Black. As well as Venom and Silver and Black, the studio is also looking at doing solo films focussing on both Mysterio and Kraven the Hunter as it continues to expand this realm.

As ever, expect more on Venom and this shared world as we get it.

Josh Boone Hopes for NEW MUTANTS Trilogy

Last week, we were treated to the terrifying first trailer for Josh Boone’s New Mutants. We’d been promised that the film would have a horror-heavy edge, and that was certainly the case. And now, Boone has been talking of his wish to use the picture as the launching point for a trilogy of movies.

Speaking to IGN, the director enthused, “These are all going to be horror movies, and they’re all going to be their own distinct kind of horror movies. This is certainly the ‘rubber-reality’ supernatural horror movie. The next one will be a completely different kind of horror movie. Our take was to examine the horror genre through comic book movies and make each one of its own distinct sort of horror film. Drawing from the big events that we love in the comics.”

In case you missed the aforementioned trailer for the film, you can find that in the player below:

At present, The New Mutants is set for an April 13th, 2018 release – and we cannot wait!

Title Revealed for Upcoming HAN SOLO Movie

solo

After much anticipation, the title for the upcoming young Han Solo movie has been revealed! And the title is… *drumroll*… Solo!

Well, to give it its full title, it’s actually Solo: A Star Wars Story. Given how the Star Wars Story tag was expected, and how the primary focus is on Han Solo, it wasn’t exactly rocket science to see this title coming. But still, at least it’s finally out of the bag and we no longer have to refer to the picture as ‘the to-be-titled Han Solo project’.

The news was revealed by director Ron Howard, who took to social media to make the reveal:

Starring Hail, Caesar’s Alden Ehrenreich as the young Solo, the movie will also features Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca, Woodley Harrelson as Han’s mentor, and roles for Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

Delving in to the tale of how Han Solo became the scruffy-looking nerf herder we first met in Mos Eisley back in 1977, Solo: A Star Wars Story is currently set for a May 25th, 2018 release.

IT’s Owen Teague Joins Hulu’s LOCKE & KEY

With Andy Muschietti currently developing the Locke & Key pilot for Hulu, a familiar face has joined the show.

As per Deadline, Owen Teague is the latest name to join the pilot, with the young actor having worked with Muschietti on this year’s much-lauded IT – where he played Patrick Hockstetter. In Locke & Key, Teague will be playing the role of Sam Lesser, “a violent and deeply troubled adolescent who kills his own father and then goes on to the Locke house and shoots the Locke kids’ father to death in addition to battering their mother.” Sounds a bit of a wrong ‘un, if you ask us. Already confirmed for the series are Frances O’Connor, Jack Mulhern, Danny Glover and two other IT names, Megan Charpentier and Jackson Robert Scott.

The early word on the series reads:

Locke & Key tells the story of the Locke family and their journey into Keyhouse, an unlikely New England mansion with fantastic doors that transform all who dare to walk through them, and home to a hate-filled and relentless creature that will not rest until it forces open the most terrible door of them all!

Initially, the rights for Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s Locke & Key were picked up by Dimension Films back in 2008, and then 2010 saw FOX develop a TV series. Sadly, neither of these times saw anything fully come to be where an adaptation was concerned, but now we’re finally getting to see Locke & Key brought to life on the small screen. Lost and The Strain’s Carlton Cuse is on board to serve as showrunner for the series.

As ever, expect more on Locke & Key as it continues to develop.

Karl Urban Still Keen on MEGA-CITY ONE

Ever since 2012’s Dredd, we’ve all been clamouring for Karl Urban to reprise the role of Judge Joseph Dredd in some capacity. While a sequel to that much-loved genre favourite has yet to happen, the news that Judge Dredd: Mega-City One was being developed for the small screen gave us hope that Urban may eventually get to don the iconic helmet once more. And now, the actor himself has been given a further update on where things stand right now.

The last we’d heard on all of this was back in August, with Urban then revealing that he has indeed held talks for Mega-City One. Now though, he’s been speaking to Latino Review while promoting this month’s Thor: Ragnarok. Speaking on where things stand with him playing Judge Dredd once more, he told the outlet, “They are currently in development with a TV series. I’m in discussions with them about that. I tell them if they write a character that has a functioning purpose, and something compelling with the journey of the character, that I’d love to be a part of it. There’s definitely a demand and a desire from the audience to see more. The ball’s in their court.”

Well, that certainly sounds like Urban is more than keen on playing Dredd once more. As he says, though, the ball is firmly in the court of the powers-that-be behind Mega-City One.

For Mega-City One, early plot details for this new series reveal that it will (obviously!) be set in the future, with the East Coast of the United States having become a hive of criminal activity. As such, the action will focus on a team of Judges tasked with cleaning up the streets in the only way they know how – by serving as judge, jury and executioner.

Expect more on all of this as it develops.

Giovanni Ribisi Returning for All Four AVATAR Sequels

Following the previous confirmed returns of several other familiar faces, it’s now been revealed that Giovanni Ribisi is another who will be back for James Cameron’s four Avatar sequels.

As per Deadline, the My Name is Earl and Sneaky Pete actor will be returning as Parker Selfridge, the head of the RDA outfit who were looking to exploit Pandora for its unobtanium.

Ribisi joins other returning names in Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Joel David Moore and Stephen Lang – with Lang’s Colonel Quaritch confirmed to be the ‘big bad’ of all four sequels despite the character being killed off at the end of Cameron’s first Avatar. In terms of new additions, the sequels have brought in Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Oona Chaplin and Jack Champion so far.

With filming now officially underway on the first two sequels, the current plan is for Avatar 2 to be released on December 18th, 2020, Avatar 3 for December 17th, 2021, Avatar 4 for December 20th, 2024, and then Avatar 5 to finally wrap things up on December 19th, 2025.

Check Out This Brilliant FRIDAY THE 13TH Fan Film

This past Friday was, of course, Friday the 13th – a date engraved in the minds of many a horror hound – and so many of you have likely spent your weekend revisiting the blood-stained antics of Jason Voorhees, be that through one of the twelve movies that are out there or possibly even through the impressive Friday the 13th video game that’s now available. While the latest cinematic outing for Jason seems to be stuck in development hell right now, we’re pleased to say that a new fan film has surfaced that should have longtime fans of the franchise shrieking in delight.

The guys over at Bloody-Disgusting first brought this to light, so we can’t claim any credit there. We simply saw this fan film and felt it was our duty to help share the love (and terror!). From Womp Stomp Films and director Vincente DiSanti comes a 50-minute feature titled Never Hike Alone; a picture that also happens to feature the return of a franchise favourite. We won’t spoil the surprise on that point, but longtime Friday the 13th fans will certainly get a kick out of the whole thing.

Plot-wise, Never Hike Alone follows Andrew Leighty’s Kyle McLeod as he discover the remains of the infamous Camp Crystal Lake. Deciding to ignore all of the old tales and supposed ghost stories, Kyle decides to take a closer look at the locale for himself. Oh Kyle, you silly, silly fella…

The official blurb on the brilliant fan flick reads:

A fan tribute to Friday the 13th, Never Hike Alone follows an adventure blogger, Kyle McLeod, who uncovers the long lost remains of Camp Crystal Lake while on a solo backpacking trip. Ignoring the campfire tales from his childhood, Kyle’s search turns deadly when he makes the grave mistake of crossing the path of Camp Blood’s legendary mass murderer, Jason Voorhees. Stranded in the forest with Jason on his heels, Kyle must push his survival skills to their limits if he hopes to survive the night. Otherwise, he’ll wind up as another lost victim of the cursed camp.

At this point, it’s been eight years since Marcus Nisepl’s Friday the 13th remake, and the last word was that the franchise was getting set for another reboot, relaunch, rejig or whatever phrase just so happens to be hip these days. There were, at one time at least, plans to do a found-footage-esque movie, but that idea thankfully seems to have been dropped. Then there was the booked-in release date of this past Friday, October 13th, 2017 for a film apparently to be titled Friday the 13th: Camp Blood – The Death of Jason Voorhees. Obviously, that movie hasn’t seen the light of day, and that was because Paramount scrapped the project after Rings disappointed at the box office. Currently, the rights for the franchise are set to return to New Line and Warner Brothers next year, and there are still plans to see Jason return to the big screen at some point down the line. Just when that is, we’ll have to wait and see.

Luckily for Friday the 13th fans, though, the tense, tight and atmospheric Never Hike Alone is here to satiate your appetite for now. And, truth be told, this fan-made film is actually better than several of the official entries in the Friday the 13th franchise. We’ll let you be the judge, of course, and you can find Never Hike Alone in the player below:

GAMBIT Gets February 2019 Release Date

After spinning its wheels for years now, 20th Century Fox have finally moved to confirm the Channing Tatum-headlined Gambit for a new release date.

As it stands, Gambit will be hit screens on February 14th, 2019, which will see it open up against Isn’t It Romantic on that particular Valentine’s Day. And what says “Happy Valentine’s Day, dear!” better than a kinetic energy-manipulating cooler-than-the-other-side-of-the-pillow Cajun mutant?

Previously, Gambit had been initially pegged for an October 2017 release. Yes, as in any day now. With directors Doug Liman and Rupert Wyatt both departing the project over the past eighteen months or so, the film was casually removed from the studio’s release calendar as many began to wonder if the long-gestating picture would ever get made.

Following months of radio silence, it was only earlier this month that we heard Pirates of the Caribbean’s Gore Verbinski was in talks to direct Gambit, although there’s still nothing official come of that at this stage.

As ever, expect more on all things Gambit as we get it.

BEETLEJUICE Sequel Still in Development

For those of you still awaiting that long-gestating Beetlejuice sequel, fear not, for the project is still in development over at Warner Brothers.

In a brief update on the follow-up from Deadline, The WB have brought in Mike Vukadinovich to rewrite the screenplay put in place by Seth Grahame-Smith all of five years ago now. Whether this means a tweak to Grahame-Smith’s existing tale or a complete overhaul and starting from scratch is unknown at this stage.

All that we do know is that Warners still have plans for a sequel to Tim Burton’s famed Michael Keaton-starrer. Burton, Keaton and Winona Ryder have all previously expressed in interest in revisiting the Ghost with the Most as the original 1988 movie approaches its thirtieth birthday.

As ever, expect more on a new Beetlejuice picture if and when things continue to develop.
