Scott Wilson 1942 – 2018

Scott Wilson

In some extremely sad news, Scott Wilson has passed away at the age of 76.

The official Walking Dead Twitter account confirmed this most tragic of news:

Wilson will be best known to genre fans for his portrayal of Hershel Greene in The Walking Dead, becoming one of the show’s most beloved characters in his three-season, thirty-episode run. The charming actor’s other credits include the likes of The Great Gatsby, Young Guns II, The Exorcist III, CSI, and Damien in a career that spanned six decades.

A warm, friendly, and hugely talented man, Scott will be missed by many.

The thoughts of all here at STARBURST go out to the family, friends, and fans of Scott Wilson. Rest in peace, sir.

First Look at Emmett Scanlon as KRYPTON’s Lobo

Lobo Emmett Scanlan

It was only yesterday it was announced that Constantine’s Emmett Scanlon has landed the role of Lobo in Krypton’s second season, and now we’ve been given our first look at the badass bounty hunter.

Click on the below image for a closer look:

Emmett Scanlon Lobo Krypton

For those unfamiliar with the Lobo character, he began life back in 1984 as a creation of Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen. An intergalactic Czarnian bounty hunter who rides through the stars on his badass motorcycle, Lobo has battled and bested some of the most powerful superheroes on DC’s roster, including Superman, Green Lantern, and the Martian Manhunter.

For years now a Lobo movie has been mooted, with the latest on that project coming earlier this year when Michael Bay was eying a big-screen outing for this no-nonsense sort. Whether that still happens, we’ll have to wait and see. We do know, however, that this massively popular character will be heading to Krypton, though.

Krypton’s second season will arrive at some point in 2019, while the show’s debut year is now showing on E4 here in the UK.

Impressive Directors Announced for THE MANDALORIAN

The Mandalorian

Hot on the heels of the news that Jon Favreau’s live-action Star Wars series is to be titled The Mandalorian, we’ve now had a first look at the titular character and found out which impressive names are on directing duties for the show.

From Lucasfilm themselves, it’s been confirmed that Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels’ Dave Filoni will be helming the first episode, with Thor: Ragnarok’s Taika Waititi, Dope’s Rick Famuyiwa, Jessica Jones’ Deborah Chow, and Bryce Dallas Howard also to direct episodes. Quite the swanky list, right?

As for that ‘first look’, click on the below image for a closer look:

The Mandalorian

The official word on The Mandalorian reads:

After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.

For its ten-episode run, The Mandalorian will have a whopping $100 million budget at its disposal.

Michael Chaves to Direct THE CONJURING 3

The Conjuring 2

While the third Annabelle movie is busy assembling its cast, we’ve now got word that Michael Chaves will be directing The Conjuring 3.

Courtesy of Bloody-Disgusting, Chaves will be replacing James Wan in the director’s chair. Wan will still be involved, mind, with him producing through his Atomic Monster banner.

Chaves has worked with Atomic Monster before, having helmed next year’s The Curse of La Llorona, and now he’s been tasked with tackling one of the biggest franchises in modern horror.

Both Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson are expected to return for The Conjuring 3, as we get the continued spooky adventures of the Warrens. To date, this whole shared Conjuring universe has amassed five movies – two Conjuring films, two Annabelle efforts, and The Nun – and there’s at least three more pictures in the pipeline with The Conjuring 3, Annabelle 3, and The Crooked Man.

The current plan is for The Conjuring 3 to go into production next year.

Rosie Perez is BIRDS OF PREY’s Renee Montoya

Rosie Perez Renee Montoya

Well, this is a pretty great piece of casting. Yes, as the title suggests, Rosie Perez is joining Birds of Prey.

Courtesy of The Wrap, it’s been revealed that Perez will be playing Renee Montoya in the Cathy Yan-helmed movie. Perez is a huge favourite of many for the likes of White Men Can’t Jump, Perdita Durango, Pineapple Express, and Go, Diego! Go!.

For those not familiar with Montoya, she’s a character who debuted back in 1992’s Batman: The Animated Series. One of Jim Gordon’s most trusted GCPD colleagues, Montoya soon became a favourite of many – even going on to become the heroic Question during The New 52.

In Birds of Prey, Perez joins Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s Huntress, and Jurnee Smollett-Bell’s Black Canary – with Cassandra Cain also to be a part of the titular team. Butting heads with this group will be the nefarious Roman Sionis, aka Black Mask.

Birds of Prey is currently set for a February 2020 release.

Capcom Confirms Live-Action MEGA MAN Movie

Mega Man

With Mega Man 11 now officially available, we’ve got word that a Mega Man movie is a ‘go’ again.

The last real news we’d heard on this was over a year ago, when Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman were said to be in talks to write and direct just such a movie. And now, Capcom has moved to finally confirm that the live-action movie is indeed happening and that, yes, Joost and Schulman are indeed the people tasked with developing the picture. The Joost and Schulman tandem are likely best known for the Catfish documentary, Paranormal Activity 3, and Nerve, and now we finally have confirmation of Mega Man.

The beloved Mega Man franchise began back in 1987, and since then the property has gone from strength to strength, spanning over 130 games on varying formats in addition to a vast array of animated movies and series. For those unfamiliar with the Mega Man property, the titular character is an android who has to battle a plethora of villainous androids who have been reprogrammed by the nefarious Dr. Willy. As well as its addictive gameplay, the series is also famous for its musical numbers and ridiculous deep roster of bad guys.

As ever, expect more on the Mega Man movie as it continues to develop.

Kaley Cuoco to Headline Animated HARLEY QUINN Series

Harley Quinn

Having released the first footage of their new animated Harley Quinn series at New York Comic Con, Warner Brothers has revealed that Kaley Cuoco will be the voice of the Maid of Mischief in this DC Universe-exclusive show.

With The WB giving Titans its world premiere, they also dropped a first Harley Quinn teaser and then revealed the animated effort’s cast. In addition to The Big Bang Theory’s Cuoco, Harley Quinn will also feature Alan Tudyk, Lake Bell, Ron Funches, JB Smoove, Wanda Sykes, Jason Alexander, Tony Hale, Diedrich Bader, Jim Rash, Giancarlo Esposito, and the ever-great Chris Meloni.

Kaley Cuoco

On this news, Cuoco enthused, “I’ve always loved animated. I did it years ago, and I haven’t been in the animation world in a while. [Harley Quinn] is so edgy, it’s obviously a very adult comedy, and with such a world-renowned character, it’s been a blast to record.”

Since debuting in Batman: The Animated Series, Harley has been largely been voiced by either Arleen Sorkin or Tara Strong, with Mia Sara playing the character in 2002’s live-action Birds of Prey series, and Margot Robbie currently playing Quinzel in the DC Extended Universe.

TITANS Renewed for a Second Season

Brenton Thwaites Robin Titans

Hot on the heels of being confirmed for a Netflix home in international markets, now comes word that Titans has already been renewed for a second season.

The series was given its world premiere at the ongoing New York Comic Con, and that was followed by the news of a second year for the live-action Teen Titans effort.

For those in the US, Titans will premiere on the hotly anticipated DC Universe streaming service next week – October 12th, to be precise – while the rest of the world will see the show land on Netflix on a to-be-confirmed date that hopefully isn’t too far away.

The official blurb on Titans reads:

Titans follows a group of young heroes from across the DC Universe as they come of age and find belonging in a gritty take on the classic Teen Titans franchise. Dick Grayson and Rachel Roth, a special young girl possessed by a strange darkness, get embroiled in a conspiracy that could bring Hell on Earth. Joining them along the way are the hot-headed Starfire and loveable Beast Boy. Together they become a surrogate family and team of heroes.
