Jamie Lee Curtis Keen on Another HALLOWEEN Movie

Halloween

There’s already been rumblings afoot that a further Halloween sequel is being planned – after all, David Gordon Green’s return for The Shape has already amassed over $100 million globally – and now Jamie Lee Curtis has seemingly thrown her hat into the ring for another outing as Laurie Strode.

Speaking to Empire Australia, Curtis explained, “If David Gordon Green called me up and said let’s do another Halloween, I would do another Halloween because he did such a beautiful job creating this movie.”

While the currently-in-cinemas Halloween was indeed billed as the final confrontation between Michael Myers and Laurie, we’ve all seen Michael return from his apparent demise several times by this point. Granted, anything bar John Carpenter’s 1978 Halloween is deemed non-canon in the world of 2018’s Halloween, but the franchise to date has seen Michael burned alive and blown up in Halloween II, shot multiple times and falling to his death in Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, and decapitated in Halloween H20, and that’s not touching on the ambiguous endings seen in Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers and Halloween: Resurrection.

So yeah, the point being, there’s always a way for The Shape to return to action. The key to getting Jamie Lee Curtis back on board for another Halloween, though, appears to be David Gordon Green’s involvement – and the last we’d heard, there was still nothing confirmed on whether or not he’ll be back in the director’s chair for any follow-up.

As ever, expect more on all things Halloween as we get in. And in the meantime, be sure to pick up our on-sale issue for the second and final part of our comprehensive Halloween franchise retrospective.

TEEN TITANS GO! VS. TEEN TITANS is Happening

Teen Titans Go! vs Teen Titans

In some hugely fun news, it looks as if the Teen Titans will be involved in a crossover with… themselves?!

To be precise, the crossover will actually see the original Teen Titans show matching up with Teen Titans Go! in a project simply called Teen Titans Go! vs. Teen Titans. io9 broke the news ahead of next week’s home release of Teen Titans Go! to the Movies.

If you remember, Teen Titans Go! to the Movies featured a mid-credits scene that showed the classic Titans group sending a message to say that they had “found a way back”. And now, these two incarnations of the famed superhero group will come together in 2019. At this stage, though, it’s not known whether that will be in a feature film or a TV effort.

That original Teen Titans show debuted on Cartoon Network back in 2003, running for five seasons and putting a smile on the face of many longtime DC Comics fans. The big rejig came in 2013, when Teen Titans Go! gave the group a more light-hearted feel and kid-orientated new look.

Be sure to check out the below teaser for this upcoming crossover:

Attractions Unveiled for GLASGOW HORROR FESTIVAL

House on Haunted Hill

Ahead of Halloween, this weekend sees the return of Glasgow Horror Festival. Run by local independent horror collective Popcorn Horror, the two-day celebration of all things macabre will take over The Classic Grand and Stereo Cafe Bar, and include a mix of traditional film festival, fan convention and performing carnival.

The main screening is the 1959 horror classic House on Haunted Hill, starring Vincent Price as a millionaire who invites assorted people to stay overnight at his purportedly haunted mansion, offering $10,000 to anyone who survives the experience. The screening will recreate some gimmicks for which producer William Castle was notorious, including flying skeletons, ghouls arising in the aisles, and on-site nurses providing death warrants for the viewers. There will also be a screening of acclaimed short film The Childish Thing, about a man clearing out childhood memorabilia and discovers some things refuse to be forgotten, and was inspired by director Jeremy Herbert’s childhood night terrors.

Also tackling the subject of night terrors is Nicoletta Wylde, a stand-up comedian whose show Afraid of the Dark is a semi-autobiographical account of dealing with the haunting fears, with a unique brand of surreal and bloody prose performance relating a journey around the monsters in the darkness and just what it takes to vanquish them.

Taking place in the eerie boiler room of Stereo Bar, the ‘interactive attraction’ The House With Neon Windows is a combination of live music, ‘80s visuals, old-school horror and escape room puzzles, presented in partnership with bespoke fright experts Scare Scotland.

Fans of live horror experiences will have plenty to entertain them with a double-bill from Big Puppet Theatre Co showcasing two original theatre performances, and GOTHeatre, whose new show Ghost Story features a young governess reading a haunting tale to the son of her new employer, only to discover that truth and fiction are often indistinguishable.

An area for monster photo ops will be available, but instead of the typical icons of horror cinema, these will feature creatures from the ranks of Scottish indie horror filmmaking. Featured are the ghoulish creations from Keith Robson’s Creek (a swamp monster from Scotland’s desolate marshlands) and Gavin Robertson’s Wendigo (a demonic spirit from Native American mythology possessing and torturing those who have eaten human flesh).

Other attractions include makeup effects artist Taarna Swanson hosting a demonstration of how gruesome monsters and injuries are created; retro gaming establishment R-Cade exploring the history of horror games and providing a number of gaming stations to relive your 16-bit childhood; and burlesque dancer Roxy Sparks shocking the stage with a performance involving demonic nuns, crucifixion and fire-eating.

Downstairs of the venue will form the convention hub, with a diverse range of horror vendors and artists trading. Books, comics, crafts, artwork, clothing and merchandise will all be available from the selection of stalls, and a busking plinth will provide music and performances from local musicians.

The event runs from 27th to 28th October, and tickets event are available here, while the Facebook event page will provide any updates. Popcorn Horror itself can be found online, on Facebook and Twitter.

An Elvis and Ash Crossover is Happening!

Army of Darkness/Bubba Ho-Tep

While it seems that the long-gestating Bubba Ho-Tep sequel isn’t happening any time soon, it’s now been confirmed that Bruce Campbell’s Elvis is getting a new comic book outing alongside Campbell’s most famous role.

Via The Hollywood Reporter, Dynamite Entertainment has teamed Elvis up with Ash Williams in a new title called simply Army of Darkness/Bubba Ho-Tep. Scott Duvall and Vincenzo Federici are the creative team behind the title, with the early word on the tale telling us that  it will involve a time-travelling jumpsuit for The King, and an all-new Book of the Dead called the Necronomicon Ho-Tep.

Don Coscarelli’s Bubba Ho-Tep is a huge favourite of many a genre fan, with Bruce Campbell and Ossie Davis starring as nursing home-bound takes on Elvis and JFK, respectively. Not only that, but they have to battle a redneck, cowboy zombie intent on eating the souls of the elderly. A sequel to the picture was long-rumoured to be happening, with Ron Perlman reportedly taking over as Elvis for Bubba Nosferatu: Curse of the She-Vampires. Despite sparse rumblings over the years, there’s still nothing concrete on any follow-up movie happening just yet.

2002’s Bubba Ho-Tep movie was actually based on Joe R. Lansdale’s story from The King is Dead: Tales of Elvis Post-Mortem, and Lansdale released Bubba Ho-Tep and the Cosmic Blood-Suckers last year.

Army of Darkness/Bubba Ho-Tep’s first issue is pegged for a February 2019 release.

Alan Tudyk to Voice HARLEY QUINN’s Joker

Alan Tudyk The Joker

While it always takes a little bit of time to get used to hearing someone other than Mark Hamill as the voice of The Joker, many genre fans will likely be on board with who will be voicing the Clown Prince of Crime in the upcoming DC Universe-exclusive Harley Quinn animated series.

With Harleen herself being voiced by Kaley Cuoco, now comes word that Alan Tudyk will be lending his vocals to the Jester of Genocide. That news was revealed by Deidrich Bader in an interview with Discussing Film, with Bader reprising the role of Batman for the show.

Tudyk, of course, has long been a favourite of so many genre fans thanks to roles in the likes of FireflyThe TickTucker & Dale vs. EvilWreck-It RalphDodgeball, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Added to that, he’s recently been cast as the villainous Mr. Nobody in Doom Patrol, the live-action superhero show that’s also headed to DC Universe.

A New PURGE Movie Will Bring the Franchise to a Close

last purge

Franchise creator James DeMonaco has confirmed that he’s now making plans for another Purge movie; one that would be the last in the series.

Speaking to EW, DeMonaco said, “I have it in my head. I think I’m going to write it. I think it’s a great way to end it all. We want to end it all, I think, in this one, and I’m very excited. When I came up with the idea and pitched it to everybody, they seemed psyched, and I think it will be a really cool ending, how we take this one home.”

As a concept, The Purge is a fascinating idea. The notion that all crime is legal for a 12-hour period once every year lends itself to some great possibilities, and to date we’ve seen four movies and a TV series for The Purge.

Expect more on this modern horror favourite as we get it.

DEADPOOL Writers in Talks for PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN Reboot

Pirates of the Caribbean

With the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise getting a reboot over at Disney, the House of Mouse is close to bringing in some big-name writers to pen the do-over.

Via Deadline, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are in talks for the gig of writing the Pirates reboot. That pairing is likely best known for their work in penning the two Deadpool movies and also for genre fave Zombieland.

In the five Pirates of the Caribbean pictures to date, a whopping box office return of over $4.5 billion has been taken home. No concrete details are known on just how Disney will handle this reboot, and there are rumblings that Johnny Depp may or may not be back as Jack Sparrow in some capacity. In fact, the only real solid information that we have right now is that the reboot is indeed happening and that producer Jerry Bruckheimer is again involved.

As ever, expect more on this new Pirates of the Caribbean effort as it continues to develop.

LeBron James to Produce FRIDAY THE 13TH Reboot

Friday the 13th

Wait, what?! Yes, you read that headline correctly – LeBron James is looking to reboot the Friday the 13th franchise.

Having already got a new Space Jam picture in the works, the basketball icon is now in talks to produce the upcoming new Friday the 13th picture. Well, to be precise, James and his SpringHill Entertainment banner are in talks with Vertigo Entertainment about the film.

A new Friday the 13th reboot has been in development for a little while now, but obviously the success currently being seen by David Gordon Green’s Halloween will obviously be a major reason to get pushing forward with this new Friday the 13th. In that regard, it’s very much a case of mirroring what went on back in 1978. Back then, Halloween – along with 1974’s Black Christmas – was seen as launching the slasher subgenre, which in turn led to a slew of copycats following in the footsteps of Michael Myers and his Haddonfield antics. Fast forward 40 years, and here we are with a new Halloween slashing up the box office, which will again inevitably lead to a new flooding of stalk ‘n’ slash efforts heading our way.

Where LeBron James is concerned, he’s made no secret of his love for Jason Voorhees, even releasing a limited Friday the 13th-themed sneaker at one point.

As ever, expect more on all things Friday the 13th as we get it.

Katie Holmes to Headline THE BOY 2

The Boy

Is there anyone out there who asked for a sequel to 2016’s The Boy? No? Well, one is on the way.

Via Variety, The Boy 2 is on the way from STX and Lakeshore Entertainment, and it will be headlined by Katie Holmes. William Brent Bell will be back to direct, and Stacey Menear is back to pen the sequel’s screenplay.

The early word on the follow-up reads:

Unaware of the terrifying history of Heelshire Mansion, a young family moves into the estate, where their young son soon makes an unsettling new friend, an eerily life-like doll he calls Brahms.

Sure, The Boy wasn’t all that bad, but was a sequel ever particularly demanded or needed?

Expect more on this as it continues to develop.
