Wait, what?! Yes, you read that headline correctly – LeBron James is looking to reboot the Friday the 13th franchise.

Having already got a new Space Jam picture in the works, the basketball icon is now in talks to produce the upcoming new Friday the 13th picture. Well, to be precise, James and his SpringHill Entertainment banner are in talks with Vertigo Entertainment about the film.

A new Friday the 13th reboot has been in development for a little while now, but obviously the success currently being seen by David Gordon Green’s Halloween will obviously be a major reason to get pushing forward with this new Friday the 13th. In that regard, it’s very much a case of mirroring what went on back in 1978. Back then, Halloween – along with 1974’s Black Christmas – was seen as launching the slasher subgenre, which in turn led to a slew of copycats following in the footsteps of Michael Myers and his Haddonfield antics. Fast forward 40 years, and here we are with a new Halloween slashing up the box office, which will again inevitably lead to a new flooding of stalk ‘n’ slash efforts heading our way.

Where LeBron James is concerned, he’s made no secret of his love for Jason Voorhees, even releasing a limited Friday the 13th-themed sneaker at one point.

As ever, expect more on all things Friday the 13th as we get it.
