Jordan Peele’s THE TWILIGHT ZONE Adds Seth Rogen

Seth Rogen

Having already amassed a rather stunning cast, the Jordan Peele-developed Twilight Zone reboot has now added another impressive name to its ranks.

Courtesy of Bloody Disgusting, Seth Rogen is now confirmed to star in an episode of the returning genre juggernaut. No details are known on just what the focus of Rogen’s episode will be but said offering has been penned by Rick and Morty’s Alex Rubens.

Rogen joins an ever-expanding Twilight Zone cast that includes the likes of Taissa Farmiga, Greg Kinnear, John Cho, Kumail Nanjiani, Steven Yeun, Adam Scott, Jacob Tremblay, DeWande Wise, James Frain and Ike Barinholtz.

Produced and hosted by Get Out’s Jordan Peele, The Twilight Zone will premiere with two back-to-back episodes on April 1st.

Elisabeth Moss in Talks for THE INVISIBLE MAN

Elisabeth Moss

With Leigh Whannell currently at work on a new take on The Invisible Man, now comes word on who may headline the picture.

Courtesy of Variety, The Handmaid’s Tale’s Elisabeth Moss is currently in talks to star in the film. At this stage, there’s no word on just which role Moss is up for, although some are speculating that the titular Invisible so-and-so may be gender-switched to be a female this time out.

If you remember, this is a picture that was initially being developed as part of Universal’s shared Dark Universe realm that began with the Tom Cruise-starring The Mummy. After The Mummy was poorly received, all plans for the Dark Universe were put on hold and are now seemingly as dead as a dodo.

Back then, Johnny Depp was on board to play the title role in The Invisible Man, with this new report claiming that Depp has now departed the project. In addition to Depp at one stage to play the Invisible Man, Javier Bardem was to play Frankenstein’s monster; the pair joining a shared world that had Sofia Boutella as the Mummy and Russell Crowe as Dr. Jekyll, Dwayne Johnson in talks to play the Wolfman, Scarlett Johansson lined up to play the Creature from the Black Lagoon, Angelina Jolie to play the Bride of Frankenstein, and with Tom Cruise along to battle such beasties.

From what we’ve heard, pretty much all of those projects have been shelved apart from possibly The Bride of Frankenstein and, of course, The Invisible Man.

Hot off the success of the stunning Upgrade, Leigh Whannell was recently brought in to write and direct The Invisible Man; a move that certainly bodes well.

Expect more on The Invisible Man as we get it.

Guillermo del Toro Teaming with Bad Robot for ZANBATO

Guillermo del Toro

Who doesn’t love Guillermo del Toro, right? With his fingers always in plentiful pies, we’ve now got word on another new project for the ridiculously talented GDT.

As first revealed by Collider, del Toro is teaming up with J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot banner and Paramount Pictures for a movie called Zanbato. The loveable del Toro will be on writing and directing duties for a feature that involves ninjas.

Plot details are being kept hush-hush for now, with the original report claiming that the film will be centred on a young female ninja. Taking to social media, del Toro himself clarified that the movie is not a ninja project but that it will have ninjas in it.

Expect more on Zanbato as we get it.

Up next for Oscar winner del Toro, he’ll be directing his own take on Pinocchio for Netflix.

Carrie Coon and Finn Wolfhard Join GHOSTBUSTERS 3

Carrie Coon Finn Wolfhard

With Jason Reitman now at work on a new Ghostbusters movie, the picture has made its first casting moves.

Via Variety, Reitman’s film – which is seemingly to be titled Ghostbusters 3 – has brought in Carrie Coon and Finn Wolfhard. Coon is likely best known to genre fans for Fargo and as Proxima Midnight in Avengers: Infinity War, whilst Wolfhard is making quite the name for himself after impressing in Stranger Things and IT.

For Ghostbusters 3, it’s believed that Coon and Wolfhard will be playing a single mother and her son.

Jason Reitman – the son of original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman – has put together a screenplay with Gil Kenan, and the plan is for this new movie to head into production this summer ahead of a 2020 release.

The current word is that Ghostbusters 3 will serve as a direct follow-up to the world of Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II but will ignore the happenings of 2016’s female-driven reboot.

EDGE OF TOMORROW Sequel Finally in Development

Edge of Tomorrow

With regular rumblings over the past few years of Edge of Tomorrow getting a sequel, now comes word that a follow-up is indeed happening.

Courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Brothers has brought in Matthew Robinson to begin work on the script for just such a sequel. Having both teased a sequel at times, it’s expected that director Doug Liman and star Tom Cruise will be back for what may end up being called Live Die Repeat and Repeat. Similarly, Emily Blunt is another who may well be back in action.

Based on Hiroshi Sakurazaka’s All You Need is Kill manga, 2014’s Edge of Tomorrow saw The Cruise playing a public relations officer caught in an eerie time loop as an alien war rages on. Each and every time he dies, he reawakens at the beginning of that same day but with all of the memories and experiences of his prior death intact. During its cinema run, Edge of Tomorrow brought home a $370 million box office from a budget just shy of $180 million.

As ever, expect more on this Edge of Tomorrow sequel as it continues to develop.

KILLTOPIA Kickstarter Underway

killtopia

A Kickstarter is underway for the second issue of the acclaimed cyberpunk comic Killtopia.

The plot involves Crash, the world’s first sentient mech, who could be the key to curing a machine-spread plague wreaking havoc upon the populace of future Tokyo. Rookie bounty hunter Shinji is the first to encounter him, and the pair now become stalked across the city by tech-enhanced killers, ruthless gangsters and the world’s greatest bloodsport champion, all of whom will stop at nothing to claim their prize.

As well print and digital copies of the 53-page full-colour story, backer rewards include art prints, sketches, t-shirts, beer mats, branded flash drives, digital copies of writer Dave Cook’s high-quality back catalogue, and a replica prop of a pistol used in the comic itself.

At the time of writing, the campaign had been live for a matter of hours and already reached its £4,500 funding goal, and such was the widely positive (and award-winning) reception the first issue received from readers and critics alike (including us), the tally will doubtless continue to rise.

The campaign runs to the end of March and you can check out all the details here.

Alan Tudyk to Headline Syfy’s RESIDENT ALIEN Series

Resident Alien Alan Tudyk

Everybody loves Alan Tudyk, right? Well, now comes word on another new project for the genre fave.

Courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter, the Firefly star has signed on to headline Syfy’s upcoming take on Dark Horse’s Resident Alien. In the series, Tudyk will be playing Harry, an alien who ends up on Earth and has to integrate himself into a small community.

From Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse, Resident Alien began life as a 2012 comic book. Captain Hah Re – or, y’know, Harry to his human pals – is an alien biologist who his supernatural and empath powers.

While the comic book is set in the fictional locale of Patience, Washington, the TV take on Resident Alien will see the action take place in Colorado. It’s expected that Tudyk will get to have some fun with prosthetics and make-up to bring Harry to life.

Joining Alan Tudyk in the series will be Sara Tomko, Alice Wetterlund, Corey Reynolds and Levi Fiehler, with Family Guy’s Chris Sheridan writing and executive producing the show.

As ever, expect more on Resident Alien as it continues to develop.

The CW’s LOST BOYS Finds its Frog Sisters

Cheyenne Haynes Haley Tju The Lost Boys

As The CW’s Lost Boys series continues to amass its cast, now comes word on some further new additions for the small-screen take on a major genre favourite.

Via Deadline, Flesh and Bone’s Sarah Hay, Camping’s Cheyenne Haynes and Bella and the Bulldogs’ Haley Tju have landed series regular roles on the show; the pictured-to-your-left duo of Haynes and Tju playing Liza and Cassie Frog.

If you remember, the show has gender-swapped the movie franchise’s Frog Brothers for the Frog Sisters. Similarly, the series will introduce a character called Mollie that will be loosely based on the Star character of the first film. And it’s Mollie that Sarah Hay is playing.

Already on board for The Lost Boys are Tyler Posey, Kiele Sanchez, Medallion Rahimi and Dakota Shapiro, with Twilight’s Catherine Hardwicke to direct the pilot episode.

The official word on The CW’s small-screen take on The Lost Boys reads:

After the sudden death of their father, brothers Michael and Sam Emerson move to Santa Carla with their mother, Lucy, who hopes to start anew in the town where she grew up. But the brothers soon find themselves being drawn deeper and deeper into the seductive world of Santa Carla’s eternally beautiful and youthful undead.

From director Joel Schumacher, The Lost Boys is a ‘87 favourite of many a genre fan. Complete with a truly phenomenal soundtrack, the original movie starred Jason Patric, Corey Haim, Corey Feldman, Jamison Newlander, Dianne Wiest, Barnard Hughes, Edward Hermann, Jami Gertz, Alex Winter and, of course, Kiefer Sutherland. Oh, and a rather sax-tastic cameo from Tim Cappello.

After constant rumblings of a sequel, Lost Boys: The Tribe was finally released in 2008. A so-so effort, that picture was followed by the slightly better (but still not great) Lost Boys: The Thirst  in 2010. In The Tribe, fans got to see Corey Feldman return as Edgar Frog and a brief cameo by Corey Haim as Sam Emerson. Joining Feldman in The Thirst, fans saw Jamison Newlander back as the other Frog brother, Alan.

Since then, a Frog-driven movie has been talked about and a TV series has regularly been speculated about. As mentioned, those TV plans were seemingly shelved in 2016; only now resurfacing. Additionally, along the way we’ve had several Lost Boys-based comics and books.

AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Likely to End After Season 7

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

While there’s still another two seasons confirmed to be on the way, it looks as if the end is nearly in sight for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Speaking during a recent Captain Marvel press junket, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. star Clark Gregg seemed to confirm that the show will be finishing after its seventh season.

As Gregg explained, “The announcement I read was two more seasons, six and seven. I can’t wait for people to see Season 6. People who have been on the journey with me and with Phil Coulson are going to get something very, very different.”

To date, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has aired five seasons with two more ordered by ABC. If the seventh season is indeed to be the last, that would mean the series will likely air its final episode in 2020. As for the upcoming Season 6, that’s due to premiere this May.

For Clark Gregg’s Agent Coulson, this month’s Captain Marvel marks Coulson’s first big-screen appearance since being killed off by Loki in the first Avengers movie.
