With Sony’s Uncharted movie currently without a director, it could well be that Travis Knight ends up helming the picture.
Via The Hollywood Reporter, the Bumblebee director is currently in talks with Sony to tackle Uncharted. This news, of course, comes on the back of the film losing 10 Cloverfield Lane’s Dan Trachtenberg – who in turn had replaced the departed Shawn Levy in the director’s chair.
Sony still has plans to start production on the video game adaptation early next year, with a December 2020 release date booked in.
This Uncharted movie has been penned by Art Marcum, Matt Holloway and Rafe Judkins, and Tom Holland is attached to play famed explorer Nathan Drake in the picture.
With production underway on Nia DaCosta’s Jordan Peele-produced Candyman offering, now comes rumblings on the exact role of franchise fave Tony Todd.
Courtesy of Bloody Disgusting, it’s being reported that Todd will indeed be back as the titular hook-handed tortured soul. Todd had long since been signed on for the movie, yet it was initially believed that he would not be playing Daniel Robitaille, aka the man known as Candyman. Now though, the ever-reliable BD claims that Todd’s part in the film will be reprising his most iconic of roles.
Joining Todd in the picture are Aquaman’s Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Get Out’s Lakeith Stanfield, If Beale Street Could Talk’s Teyonah Paris, Fear the Walking Dead’s Colman Domingo and Misfits’ Nathan Stewart-Jarrett.
Candyman itself actually began life as a short story in Clive Barker’s Books of Blood. Originally titled The Forbidden, the story was famously adapted as a 1992 Tony Todd and Virginia Madsen-starring movie from Bernard Rose. Plot-wise, the movie version took place in the semi-demolished Cabrini-Green housing development in Chicago. Todd’s Candyman was an artist and the son of a slave, murdered by bees by his lover’s father after first having his hand lopped off.
From there, the urban legend of the Candyman is that if you say his name five times while looking in the mirror, he’ll appear behind you – and likely slice you up good ‘n’ proper. Sequels followed with 1995’s Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh and 1999’s Candyman: Day of the Dead, and despite mild rumblings over the decades, the franchise has remained dead since that ’99 effort.
For this new Candyman, the film will return to the area that once housed the Cabrini-Green housing projects. This time out, we find a new group of poor souls wishing to explore the legend of the infamous Candyman. Which we all know, will likely not end well for the majority of those involved.
To be directed by Little Woods’ Nia DaCosta from a screenplay penned by Jordan Peele and Win Rosenfeld, Candyman is booked in for a June 12th, 2020 release.
After countless negotiations that failed between Sony and Marvel over the rights to keep Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the web-slinger’s future looked uncertain leaving many fans disappointed and heartbroken.
However, Sony Pictures (via Variety) announced today that Marvel Studios will produce a third Spider-Man film meaning the young Avenger, who will continue to be played by Tom Holland, will stay in the MCU for another outing which is scheduled for release on July 16th 2021.
Kevin Fiege and Amy Pascal, who both produced the first two solo Spider-Man MCU outings, will return once again with producer roles. Amy Pascal had the following to say about the deal which was struck late on Thursday night:
Peter Parker’s story took a dramatic turn in ‘Far From Home’ and I could not be happier we will all be working together as we see where his journey goes.
Marvel Studios head Fiege had the following to add to the announcement:
I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue. Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.
Financial details of the agreement have seemingly been confirmed too with Disney continuing to receive 100% of the Merchandising revenue and roughly 25% of the profits meaning Sony keep a whopping 75% cut (of what will presumably be another $1B+). As part of the agreement, Spider-Man will also be able to feature in one future Marvel Studios film.
CCO of Sony Pictures Entertainment, Robert Lawson, also commented on the new deal:
We have had a great collaboration over the last four years, and our mutual desire to continue was equal to that of the many fans. We are delighted to be moving forward together.
As Paramount’s Snake Eyes movie continues to amass its core cast, it looks as if the G.I. Joe has found one of its key villains.
Via The Wrap, La Casa De Papel’s Ursula Corbero has signed on to play Anastasia Cisarovna, aka the Baroness in the picture. That character is one of Cobra’s baddest of the bad, and she’s a big fan of any sort of warfare and carnage. Additionally, the Baroness also harbours a major grudge against Snake Eyes as she deems him responsible for the death of her brother.
Corbero joins a Snake Eyes cast that currently features Crazy Rich Asians’ Henry Golding in the title role, Warrior’s Andrew Koji as Storm Shadow, and The Raid’s Iko Uwais as the Hard Master.
To be directed by Robert Schwentke, Snake Eyes is currently pegged for an October 2020 release.
As The CW’s Crisis on Infinite Earths keeps on getting bigger and better, now comes word that this December’s all-encompassing crossover event has added a Huntress and an Atom to its ranks.
Courtesy of TV Line and TV Insider, Ashley Scott is to reprise her Birds of Prey role of Helena Kyle, aka Huntress, while Supernatural’s Osric Chau has been brought in to play the Ryan Choi incarnation of The Atom.
Scott’s Huntress was one of the titular heroines of 2002’s short-lived Birds of Prey series, with her character being the daughter of Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle. Whether fellow Birds of Prey stars Dina Mayer and Rachael Skarsten will pick up their roles of Oracle and Black Canary remains to be seen – although we do know that Skarsten is playing the deranged Alice in Batwoman. Elsewhere in the Arrowverse, Jessica De Gouw played the Helena Bertinelli version of Huntress in Arrow, but there’s yet to be any mention of her partaking in Crisis yet.
As for Ryan Choi, that DC Comics character is one of several people to take on the mantle of The Atom. In the Arrowverse, of course, Brandon Routh has played the Ray Palmer version of The Atom since Arrow’s third season and has more recently been a permanent fixture on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. Unfortunately for fans of Routh, he’s due to exit Legends at some point during – or possibly even before – the series’ upcoming fifth season.
In Crisis on Infinite Earths, Choi is described as having a pivotal part to play in this crossover, which could well mean that the character may ultimately end up sticking around after Crisis comes to a conclusion.
For longtime fans of DC TV shows, Crisis on Infinite Earths is literally the stuff that dreams are made of. In addition to the characters of Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman, this crossover will also feature Tom Welling and Erica Durance as Smallville’s Superman and Lois Lane, the characters of Black Lightning will be present, the aforementioned Routh will pull double-duty by reprising his Man of Steel role from Superman Returns, John Wesley Shipp will take on the headline gig from the ‘90s The Flash, Batman: The Animated Series’ Kevin Conroy will be playing an old Bruce Wayne – a nod to his time voicing an aged Bruce in Batman Beyond – and there’ll be an appearance from the Robin of the ‘60s Batman, Burt Ward.
In a case of “really?”, Sony Pictures is moving ahead with a Madame Web movie.
Courtesy of Collider, Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless – who recently penned the Jared Leto-headlined Morbius – having been given the nod to start writing the picture. Sony’s Palak Patel will serve as producer on the film.
Created by the legendary duo of Denny O’Neil and John Romita Jr., Madame Web debuted in 1980’s The Amazing Spider-Man #210. Born blind, Cassandra Webb developed psychic abilities during her younger years and ultimately ended up in a spider’s web-shaped life-support system after her central nervous system was affected by a disease.
Madame Web would occasionally dip in to help out Peter Parker, not to mention several incarnations of Spider-Woman. Most famously to most casual fans, Madame Web appeared in the iconic ‘90s Spider-Man cartoon from FOX – in which she was voiced by Joan Lee, the wife of a certain Stan the Man.
A Madame Web movie is just the latest project in development as part of Sony’s shared Spider-Verse of films that began with last year’s Venom. In addition to July 2020’s Morbius and October 2020’s Venom 2, Sony is at work on solo offerings for Nightwatch, Kraven the Hunter, Black Cat, Silver Sable, Silk, Jackpot, a Sinister Six movie, and even possibly a film based around Aunt May.
It’s one thing to build a shared universe around, well, a shared universe of big-time characters – ala the Marvel Cinematic Universe or even what Warner Bros. attempted with the DCEU – but it kinda feels a little bit too much for Sony to try and create an entire cinematic realm based around supporting players in the bigger picture of Spider-Man.
Of course, Tom Holland’s Spidey is now seemingly destined to head to Sony’s Spider-Verse after talks broke down between Sony and Disney over Spider-Man’s continued use in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
As ever, expect more on all of these various projects as they continue to develop.
For those looking forward to Gabriel Luna’s Ghost Rider getting his own series, we’ve got some bad news. Courtesy of Deadline, Hulu have decided to pass on the show.
Previously, we’d heard how Luna was to reprise his Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. role as the Robbie Reyes incarnation of the Spirit of Vengeance and headline his own Ghost Rider show. From all reports, Hulu and showrunner Ingrid Escajeda butted heads over the ever-familiar creative differences – which led to Hulu deciding not to take the show forward.
While Ghost Rider is currently dead in the water, there is the slight chance that Marvel may be able to find an alternative home for the series. Even more so, given that Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb had been championing the show as ushering in what he called the company’s Adventure Into Fear plan, which would lead Marvel to explore their more darker characters.
Despite the brakes being put on Ghost Rider, Marvel’s Helstrom series is still moving forward.
In some news that’s sure to put a major grin on the face of many a genre fan, Kevin Feige is going to be developing a new Star Wars movie.
Feige, of course, is the head honcho at Marvel Studios and is one of the key figures involved in shaping the Marvel Cinematic Universe over the past decade. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news, with Feige to work with Kathleen Kennedy on the picture.
This kind of comes as a surprise, but then kind of doesn’t. After all, both Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm are now housed under the Disney banner.
On this news, Walt Disney Studios’ Alan Horn enthused, “We are excited about the projects Kathy and the Lucasfilm team are working on, not only in terms of Star Wars but also Indiana Jones and reaching into other parts of the company including Children of Blood and Bone with Emma Watts and Fox. With the close of the Skywalker saga, Kathy is pursuing a new era in Star Wars storytelling, and knowing what a die-hard fan Kevin is, it made sense for these two extraordinary producers to work on a Star Wars film together.”
For those fearful of whether this might impact the MCU, fear not, for Feige is remaining in his position with Marvel Studios – just that he’s essentially doing this Star Wars picture on the side as a passion project.
At this stage, there’s zero information on what this Star Wars project will involve, where it will be set, when it will be set, what characters will be featured, or when the movie will be released.
This latest Star Wars offering joins a slew of other in-development films from a galaxy far, far away. First up, this December sees Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hit cinema screens, while a trilogy of Rian Johnson-developed Star Wars movies are in development, three other Star Wars pictures are booked in for 2022, 2024 and 2026, and various other potential Star Wars movies being eyed.
This comes hot on the heels of Disney’s Bob Iger this month saying how the House of Mouse had maybe delivered too many Star Wars movies in too short of a time, and that there was maybe fatigue setting in with the fan base…
Seriously, what’s not to love about a clip labelled “Nic Cage love the sound of screaming”? Well, we just so happen to have gotten our hands on an exclusive clip from Cage’s new move, A Score to Settle, in which Nic does indeed love the sound of screaming.

Well, this is some awesome news for fans of the Jurassic Park/World franchise.
Yes, as the headline suggests, three of the stars of the original Jurassic Park are returning for the next Jurassic outing.
Speaking at last night’s Los Angels screening of that 1993 classic – via The Wrap – Laura Dern revealed that Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum and herself will all be reprising their roles from Jurassic Park for Colin Trevorrow’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom follow-up.
That picture has yet to be given an official title, but Colin Trevorrow will be back to direct the movie. Likewise, Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will also be back for the June 2021 release.
Of course, the last time we saw Dern’s Ellie Sattler and Neill’s Alan Grant was in 2001’s Jurassic Park III, while Goldblum’s Ian Malcolm had a small role to play in last year’s Fallen Kingdom.
Expect more on this new Jurassic World film as we get it.
