rogue clip

As the animals-attack film Rogue is out now on DVD and Digital Download, we have an exclusive clip to share with you featuring Megan Fox facing off against a ravenous lion!

The synopsis of Rogue is:

Megan Fox (Transformers franchise) fights to the death against terrorists and a dangerous, rogue lion in this white-knuckle action thrill-ride from director M.J. Bassett (Deathwatch, Silent Hill: Revelation, Ash vs. Evil Dead).

Battle-hardened mercenary Samantha O’Hara (Megan Fox) leads an elite squad of soldiers on a daring mission to rescue a hostage from a group of violent terrorists in the plains of Africa. But when the mission goes wrong, the team is stranded, Samantha’s squad must face a bloody, brutal encounter with the ferocious gang of rebels, and a ravenous, enraged lioness that is baying for their blood after escaping from an illegal lion farm.

With explosive set-pieces and a horde of rampaging wild animals, former wildlife photographer MJ  Basset (now best known for her work in action and horror) delivers a killer slice of action cinema, with a shrewd critique of poaching and the black-market animal trade.

Starring Megan Fox, Philip Winchester (Law and Order: Special Victims Unit), Sisanda Henna, Adam Deacon (Kidulthood), Jessica Sutton (Escape Room), Kenneth Fok (The Dark Tower), and Calli Taylor (The Courier). Written and directed by MJ Bassett.

Shudder Announces CREEPSHOW Christmas Special

Creepshow

Having warmed our cockles last month with an animated Halloween special, now comes word that another Creepshow extravaganza is on the way before the year is out.

As announced by Shudder, A Creepshow Holiday Special will premiere on December 18th to drum up some festive frights for horror hounds.

The early word on A Creepshow Holiday Special reads:

In the holiday-themed, hour-long episode, ‘Shapeshifters Anonymous’, fearing he is a murderer, an anxious man searches for answers for his ‘unique condition’ from an unusual support group. Starring Anna Camp and Adam Pally, the special is written and directed by Creepshow showrunner Greg Nicotero, based on a short story by J.A. Konrath.

This, of course, is in addition to a proper second season of Creepshow hitting Shudder in 2021.

Mads Mikkelsen in Talks for FANTASTIC BEASTS 3

Mads Mikkelsen

With Johnny Depp having last week exited Fantastic Beasts 3, now comes word on who may be replacing Depp in the movie.

Via Deadline, Hannibal fave Mads Mikkelsen is currently in talks to pick up the Gellert Grindelwald role played by Depp in Fantastic Beasts franchise.

This news comes barely a day after Warner Bros. officially pushed Fantastic Beasts 3 back from November 2021 to a July 2022 release. As for Depp, he was reportedly asked to step down from the threequel after losing his libel suit against The S*n last week.

As ever, expect more on Fantastic Beasts 3 as it continues to develop.

Universal Developing SCORPION KING Reboot

The Scorpion King

Well, this is a little out of left-field. Yes, as the headline suggests, The Scorpion King is being rebooted.

Via Deadline, Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia’s Seven Bucks Productions are rebooting The Scorpion King over at Universal Pictures. Straight Outta Compton writer Jonathan Herman has been brought in to pen the screenplay for the reboot.

If you remember, Johnson’s very first movie role was as the Scorpion King in 2001’s The Mummy Returns. Johnson would then reprise the role in the following year’s The Scorpion King. Since then, a further four Scorpion King pictures have been served up – none of which had Johnson back in the saddle as the titular character.

For those asking the obvious question, no, Dwayne Johnson will not be starring in this Scorpion King reboot. That’s down to the insane schedule that Johnson has, although he may well end up making a small cameo of sorts if all works out time-wise.

The early word on The Scorpion King says that the film will be set in the modern day rather than heading back in time to deliver its tale.

No release date has been just at this stage for The Scorpion King, and the search is now on to find a director to tackle the project.

Netflix Renews THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY

The Umbrella Academy

While several genre shows have faced the axe in recent months, now comes some positive news for fans of The Umbrella Academy.

In an official announcement, Netflix has moved to confirm that The Umbrella Academy has been renewed for a third season. This third year will consist of ten one-hour episodes, with Steve Blackman returning as showrunner and executive producer.

Season Two of The Umbrella Academy saw our batch of young heroes heading back to the 1960s to try and save all existence. Of course, it’s not always plain sailing on that front, and thus the actions seen in the show’s sophomore season yet again served to alter the timeline.

No premiere date has been set at this stage for The Umbrella Academy’s third year, but it’s just great to hear that this is one genre favourite that will be returning to our screens.

Jordan Peele’s Next Movie Set for July 2022

Jordan Peele

We don’t know what it will focus on, we don’t know what it will be titled, but we now at least know when we’ll get to see Jordan Peel’s next directorial effort make its way to the silver screen.

Universal Pictures has now confirmed that Peele’s third film is currently scheduled for a July 22, 2022 big-screen release. Previously, the ridiculously talented filmmaker has wowed audiences with Get Out and Us – and Peele’s promised that his third feature will be scarier than both of his previous pictures.

This next movie is part of a five-year exclusive production deal that Jordan Peele and his Monkeypaw banner signed with Universal just last year.

Before this mystery 2022 offering, we’ve first got Nia DaCosta’s Peele-produced Candyman set for August 27, 2021 – with that movie having seen its intended released pushed back to 2021 due to, well, 2020 being 2020.

Vin Diesel Returning for BLOODSHOT 2?

Bloodshot

The first film may have received a largely negative response upon its release earlier this year, but now we have word that a Bloodshot 2 is on the way.

Speaking to CBR, DMG CEO Dan Mintz – DMG being the parent company of the Valiant imprint to which Bloodshot calls home – stated that Vin Diesel is reprising his headlining role for Bloodshot 2.

Bloodshot was one of the first movies to be hit hard by the ongoing global pandemic, with its release coming just as the world shut down. As such, Bloodshot was quickly shifted from a theatrical release to a VOD release.

Mintz cited a “very successful” VOD performance for the picture as not putting the powers-that-be of pushing forward with a Bloodshot sequel.

Having managed a brief two-week run in US cinemas before going straight to VOD, Bloodshot didn’t even manage to make its $45 million budget back by the time all was said and done.

It’s worth adding that Sony Pictures has yet to make any official announcement of a Bloodshot 2, so we’ll all have to see if and when this develops further.

Jeff Nichols to Tackle a Third QUIET PLACE Movie

A Quiet Place Part II

While A Quiet Place: Part II has yet to officially rear its head, now comes word that a third entry in the series is in development.

Via Deadline, Loving helmer Jeff Nichols is to write and direct a third Quiet Place offering. It’s not yet known whether this will be an outright A Quiet Place: Part III or whether this will be a world-expanding movie set within the same realm its two predecessors.

After John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place won a whole host of praise and plaudits upon its release in 2018, it was soon announced that a sequel was on the way. Unfortunately, A Quiet Place: Part II is one of the many movies that have seen their release delayed here in 2020.

Having been originally planned to be released this past summer, A Quiet Place: Part II is currently now set for an April 23, 2021 bow. Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmons and Noah Jupe will all be returning in this follow-up – and they’ll be joined by Cillian Murphy and Djimon Hounsou.

As ever, expect more on this third Quiet Place picture as we get it.

Horror Legend Shaun Hutson Releases New Book

progeny hutson

Shaun Hutson, the legendary British horror writer, has released his latest novel, Progeny. The book is the long-awaited sequel to his 1983 bestselling novel Spawn. Publishers Caffeine Nights commissioned the original Spawn cover artist, Mark Taylor to design the cover for the sequel, which pays keeps the similar theme of the original art while representing the new direction.

Hutson said of the book: “Progeny works as a stand-alone novel, but for fans who have read Spawn, there is a whole back story there that adds another level to reading Progeny. I always wanted to go back and revisit some of my earlier work and see how I could develop the work over 35 years later. Spawn was always one of those stories that was left with strands that could be picked up and spun into something more horrific than the original. I also loved the irony of a book being spawned from the original that really is its progeny.

Progeny is Shaun Hutson’s thirty-ninth horror novel under his own name, and his 2019 novel, Testament, has also had a paperback release from Caffeine Nights Publishing. Both books are out now, with eBook and audio versions available.
