Well, this is a little out of left-field. Yes, as the headline suggests, The Scorpion King is being rebooted.
Via Deadline, Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia’s Seven Bucks Productions are rebooting The Scorpion King over at Universal Pictures. Straight Outta Compton writer Jonathan Herman has been brought in to pen the screenplay for the reboot.
If you remember, Johnson’s very first movie role was as the Scorpion King in 2001’s The Mummy Returns. Johnson would then reprise the role in the following year’s The Scorpion King. Since then, a further four Scorpion King pictures have been served up – none of which had Johnson back in the saddle as the titular character.
For those asking the obvious question, no, Dwayne Johnson will not be starring in this Scorpion King reboot. That’s down to the insane schedule that Johnson has, although he may well end up making a small cameo of sorts if all works out time-wise.
The early word on The Scorpion King says that the film will be set in the modern day rather than heading back in time to deliver its tale.
No release date has been just at this stage for The Scorpion King, and the search is now on to find a director to tackle the project.
