First-Time Filmmaker Smashes Kickstarter Target On First Day

The Kickstarter campaign for the H.P. Lovecraft adaptation The Haunter of the Dark has gone down splendidly on the crowdfunding site, surpassing its goal by 500% in six days! 24-year-old Megan Tremethick, who starred in Dragon Knight, makes her debut as a director with the indie horror film.

The Haunter of the Dark follows the chilling midnight adventures of a man, who is lured from his bed to investigate the dark recesses of a mysterious church tower. There, and alone in the darkness of that place, he encounters a chilling entity… a silhouetted figure, guarding an ancient crystal of incredible power. A crystal that carries a terrible curse. 

The short film stars Gordon Holliday best known for Andy Stewart’s festival hit film, Dysmorphia as an enthusiastic amputee, a role that was praised by the Soska Sisters, 

The overwhelming success of Megan’s crowdfunding campaign has now also led to the successful funding of a second Lovecraft-inspired short film entitled Revenge of Innsmouth, which is set in a dystopian future, in which – in a reversal of roles – the oppressed inhabitants of Innsmouth mount a violent bid for liberation against their hated human oppressors. Caught in the maelstrom of terror during the first night of their revolution is a young waitress, whose diner becomes the setting for brutal violence and unspeakable horror. 

But… who are the real monsters? The feared, fish-like creatures of Innsmouth, or the humans who keep them under lock and key?

The campaign now continues to raise funds for both films on Kickstarter, where Megan is offering digital downloads, artwork, production credits, and even walk-on roles.

Any table-top gamer knows that in order to make a game more fun. You need a decent amount of snacks, a large table, good friends, plenty of time and of course, terrain for your models to hide behind, use as obstacles etc. You can only go so far using some salt-shakers and a can of cola, after all.

Those lovely folk at Mantic understand this, and have launched a Kickstarter to produce really cool alien scene terrain. TerrainCrate three is all about making our wargames tables look outstanding whilst being functional and inexpensive. TC3 will consist of two Crates, one full of stunning jungle and fungal flora and one crammed with sci-fi scatter and walls that not only look great but stop those arguments about being in or out of a terrain piece. These Crates will also be accompanied by three new gaming mats in 4×4, 6×4 and 40k size, along with neoprene templates for woods and buildings.

The designs combine an alien-world vibe with an 80’s sci-fi TV show feel that we don’t see often enough in the board game world. These are fun and flexible features, suitable for all sorts of games, even Grim Dark ones.
