With DC’s Legends of Tomorrow now airing in the US, it’s already been discussed about how the show may feature older versions of certain familiar DC characters. Well now comes confirmation that Arrow’s Stephen Amell will be turning up as an older Oliver Queen.

In fact, not only will we meet an old Ollie, but we’ll also meet his son. Yes, as in Connor Hawke, the comic book son of Oliver’s who also goes on to take on the Green Arrow mantle. The episode in question will take place in 2046 and, for long-time DC fans, they’ll be pleased to know that Oliver Queen will be sporting a goatee and will only have one arm. If we’re to believe that the current Emerald Archer is around the 30 mark, that means Legends of Tomorrow will be giving us an Oliver Queen who is approximately 60 years of age.

Expect to see Ollie and Connor in the sixth episode of the series, titled Legends. On this upcoming episode, executive producer Marc Guggenheim said, “Every once in a while, we do an episode where the 10-year-old me has to pinch himself. We’re not only introducing our version of Connor Hawke to our universe, we’re going to meet the 2046 version of Oliver Queen, and Stephen Amell is going to be reprising his role from Arrow. As an added bonus to comic book fans, Oliver is missing his left arm and will be sporting a goatee, in a nod to the character’s appearance in the seminal Dark Knight Returns. We think this episode features some of the coolest things we’ve ever done.”

This all sounds pretty damn cool to us, so consider us sold. In Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns, a one-armed Oliver Queen helps Batman in his battle against Superman before then going on to appear in Miller’s follow-up, The Dark Knight Strikes Again.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow has just aired its second episode in the US, and the series, which focusses on Rip Hunter bringing together the team of The Atom, White Canary, Firestorm, Hawkgirl, Hawkman, Captain Cold and Heatwave to travel through time and bring down the threat of the immortal Vandal Savage, debuts in the UK on Sky1 on March 3rd.
