As a new outing for Jason Voorhees struggles to take shape, the next Friday the 13th entry has brought in Prisoners’ Aaron Guzikowski to put together a new draft of the film’s script.

Variety broke the news, with Guzikowski now the man tasked with penning the tale of Jason’s next outing. The premise of the film is being kept completely under wraps at the moment, although there were murmurs of the film being (whisper it quietly)… a found footage affair. Certain quarters have moved to quell those rumours, so hopefully there’s nothing concrete to them.

This next Friday the 13th will be the thirteenth entry in the franchise, with the standard series going up to Jason X before we were then given Freddy vs. Jason and the 2009 Friday the 13th remake.

All remains hazy on whether this next film will be yet another restart for the franchise or whether it could maybe pick up the story from the ’09 redo or even follow on from the standard franchise and Freddy vs. Jason.

If you ask us, it would be silly to relaunch the series from scratch once more, and it would sure be a massive shame not to have Derek Mears back as Jason. As such, the best option here seems to be to continue on from the 2009 remake, although that’s merely our humble opinion.

Expect more on this as and when it develops.
