Well that rumour was short-lived! In an official statement to The Hollywood Reporter, a Snyder rep had this to say:

“While he is super-flattered because he is a huge fan, Zack is not involved in any way with the new Star Wars. He is currently in post on his two films, Man of Steel and 300: Battle of Artemisia.”

Are we alone in being a little gutted this didn’t prove true? Sigh. For what it’s worth, our original story is below…

***

We’re reminded of the classic fable the Boy Who Cried Wolf right now, since the last time we ran a similar headline it was an April Fool’s gag!

Today’s piece of (unconfirmed) news comes courtesy of Vulture, who are reporting that they’ve got inside knowledge on a new, Jedis-on-a-mission standalone Star Wars spin-off movie based on Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai (a fond favourite of George Lucas). Watchmen director Zack Snyder is said to be directing the picture, which if it comes to pass will be a long-held dream of his. (Which is why we were so confused when he expressed no desire to helm Episode VII when his name was in contention for the gig.)

That’s it for details, but stay tuned for more developments… Or an announcement from Disney/Lucasfilm that says it’s all complete bollocks!

STAR WARS EPISODE VII opens 2015.
