Several months ago now, James Mangold, director of last year’s THE WOLVERINE, confirmed that he was working on a third solo film for Logan. Following on from this, Mangold was recently asked on Twitter as to when we can expect to see this movie.

Tagging the studio and producer Lauren Shuler Donner in on his response, the director said,@20thCenturyFox @ShuDonner We are figuring it all out. At the moment, I’m shooting the next #Wolverine after #XmenApocalypse.”

Despite Mangold proclaiming his enthusiasm for a third Wolverine solo film, Hugh Jackman has been less committal in recent months. Having played Wolverine for nearly 15 years, Jackman is fully aware that he cannot go on forever as everyone’s favourite cranky Canuck. In recent interviews, Jackman has suggested that he may be getting too old for the Wolverine gig, admitting that there may come a time when the character will have to be recast.

For now, though, Wolverine will appear in this year’s X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, which is scheduled for a 23rd May release. As for X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, there’s been no confirmation of a Wolverine appearance just yet, although very few details have been released on that film bar it being pencilled in for a 27th May, 2016 release.

Given X-MEN: APOCALYPSE’s 2016 release date, we’d hazard a guess that a third Wolverine film won’t hit until 2017 at the earliest.
