It may not be the silver lining to privatisation, but The Royal Mail has issued a series of stamps that honour, celebrate and commemorate the cream of British Cinema. The stamps gather up classic moments from a variety of British films ranging from Lawrence of Arabia, starring the late great Peter O’Toole who agreed to appear on one of the stamps before his death last year, to Mike Leigh’s seminal Secrets and Lies, to more contemporary films like the football comedy Bend it Like Beckham. For sci-fi aficionados there’s a glorious still of Stanley Kubrick’s masterful space ballet 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Royal Mail spokesman Andrew Hammond has stated: ‘This stamp issue takes in landmark films, epics and influential movies that evoke the distinctiveness and quality of British film and story-telling across key genres. We hope they are enjoyed by anyone who has a love of great British film-making at its very best.’

You can pick up the stamps from the Royal Mail’s website.
