When Michael Bay was announced to be producing a TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES reboot, people groaned. It was then announced that the Turtles would actually be aliens… to more groans. This was played down, to mild relief. As casting news began to break, the fantastic William Fichtner was added as the villainous Shredder… to loud applause. This applause suddenly turned to even louder groans, further Bay bashing, and the slaughtering of a generation’s childhood as it was revealed that this version of Shredder was no longer to be Oruki Saki. No, no, no, this new movie’s Shredder was to be called Erich Sachs (?). Urgh. Either way, Fichtner has been speaking to Flicks and the City about the film.

Fichtner said, “Well I play a guy named Eric Sachs and we find out that Eric Sachs is somebody else too. I can’t give away too much in the story but I can tell you that who Shredder is in the telling of this Turtles is unlike any telling of the story before. His connection and relationship to the turtles is a bit surprising and for an actor playing it, the backstory, which comes out in this film, is really intriuging… We made some changes while filming that I thought are just awesome.”

Briefly discussing the new film’s Turtles, he added, “It’s freaky, they’re cool, and they’re mutants and they look awesome. It’s tough and it’s going to be really, really great. It’s not like any Mutant NInja Turtles thing you’ve ever seen before.”

The actor also let slip that the always-entertaining Bebop and Rocksteady won’t be appearing in this film.

As well as Fichtner, the films features Pete Ploszek as Leonardo, Jeremy Howard as Donatello, Alan Ritchson as Raphael, Noel Fisher as Michelangelo, Danny Woodburn as Master Splinter, Megan Fox as April O’Neil and Will Arnett as Vernon Fenwick.

Produced by Bay and directed by Jonathan Liebesman, TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES will be released on 8th August, 2014.
