Some new pictures have emerged from Tim Burton’s upcoming gothic soap opera adaptation, DARK SHADOWS:

Early reports seem to suggest it’s a return to the Burton of old with dark humour mixed in with a typically gothic setting. The plot revolves around Johnny Depp’s Barnabas Collins who was turned into a vampire by a jilted lover, Eva Green’s Angelique, in the 1700’s and buried alive. He is dug up in the 1970’s and tries to reintegrate himself with his living descendants.

Senior Entertainment Weekly writer Anthony Breznican (@Breznican) has also tweeted an early mini-review of the film after seeing a screening of the movie:

I’ve seen final cut of Dark Shadows. Tone similar to Burton and Depp’s Sleepy Hollow – lots of humor, but with menacing, atmospheric edge.

In Dark Shadows, there’s an absurdist bent to the monster element. The creatures of the night are adrift in the self-obsessed world of 1970s

In typical Burton fashion, humans are scarier than the fiends. If u want Interview w the Vampire, that movie exists. This is a more wry take.

Sounds promising. We’ll all find out for ourselves when DARK SHADOWS is released May 11th in the UK.
