As Cyclops is the leader of the X-Men team, it was a little surprising to some that he was essentially vaporised by long-time love Jean Grey in X-MEN: THE LAST STAND. As ever with comic book characters, death means nothing. And as such, James Marsden has been talking about his wish for Cyke to return in X-MEN: APOCALYPSE.

Speaking to Crave, Marsden said, “I’ve always been very proud of my role and it’s out of my hands. It’s nice to see Bryan [Singer[ go back in and turn the boat a little bit. I’m happy for those that made it back. I’d like to return. I get excited watching the trailers because I’m excited for the continuance of the X-Men world.”

Given how Singer has previously talked about using the upcoming X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST to address certain character and timeline issues, a return for Marsden’s Cyclops isn’t out of the question. That said, it appears that the X-MEN franchise will move forward with the younger cast members, such as Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult and Jennifer Lawrence, in X-MEN: APOCALYPSE.

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST is released on 22nd May, with X-MEN: APOCALYPSE planned for a 2016 release.
