Speaking at the UK première of ANCHORMAN: THE LEGEND CONTINUES, James Marsden was asked by Absolute Radio about a possible return to the X-Men world as Cyclops. It’s claimed that the character does not feature in Bryan Singer’s upcoming X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST at all, but I’ve still got a sneaky feeling he may pop up in a fleeting role. With Singer last week announcing X-MEN: APOCALYPSE to follow on from DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, that gives the leader of the X-Men another chance to appear.

Asked about X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, Marsden surprisingly responded, “I don’t even know about that.” Notified that it’s to be released in 2016, he replied, “Way too early,” in terms of knowing about any potential involvement for him. When asked if he could see an X-return on the horizon, he concluded, “I hope so. I love being a part of that world.”

Surely if the X-Men are to go up against one of their greatest threats, Apocalypse, then they need their leader, right?

Whilst I’m not a fan of the Cyclops character, be it in comic book, animated or cinematic form, I do quite like Marsden and he nailed the Cyclops role in his three outings as the character. Yes, the character was last seen essentially vapourised by his ‘one true,’ but when does something like that really mean anything in a franchise that’s got so many convoluted timelines in play and is about to give us a time-travelling epic?

Like I said, I still wouldn’t be totally surprised if Marsden’s Cyclops does make a small appearance in Singer’s X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, released on 23rd May, 2014.
