Ian Flemming

Duncan Jones has announced his new project, and while it’s a departure from the sci-fi themes introduced in his first two movies – MOON and SOURCE CODE – we’re pleased to report he’s sticking with subject matter that Starburst holds dear, namely everybody’s favourite super spy James Bond. Well, more specifically his creator, Ian Fleming.

According to the press release recently revealed in Cannes, the picture is based on Andrew Lycett’s 1996 biography IAN FLEMING, THE MAN BEHIND JAMES BOND, and will chronicle the author’s real life adventures that went on to inspire 007 himself.

“Fleming lived through one of the most perilous periods in world history” Jones says, “in a position that allowed him a unique vantage point of all the players, all the stakes.  He witnesses true heroism first-hand.  And he saw the evil men could do.  Then, when the war ended, he went off to write fiction. The essential question for me is; where did Ian Fleming end and Bond begin?”

Though the movie has been in development for many years, it looks like it might have been worth the wait now a director of Jones’ calibre is onboard. Casting has already begun on the movie, which will aim for a 2013 release.
