A sequel to Eli Roth’s THE GREEN INFERNO is already on the cards just hours after its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. Although it’s Roth’s first directorial feature in six years, he has opted to “present and produce” the follow-up, BEYOND THE GREEN INFERNO. Directing duties will be handled by Nicholas Lopez, who recently helmed AFTERSHOCK.

Along with Roth and Lopez, Guillermo Amoedo has contributed to the screenplay and production is expected to commence in Chile and Peru next spring.

Lopez refused to divulge any details regarding the sequel except to say that the film will go “bigger, darker, and scarier into the unknown.” Roth, meanwhile, commented in an official press release that “Filming deep in the Amazon was a fascinating, life-changing experience, and we quickly learned there’s an entire world of stories, legends, myths and monsters in that jungle. It’s endless. Living in isolation we saw first hand just how far and deep we could take the world of ‘The Green Inferno.’”

THE GREEN INFERNO revolves around a group of American student activists who travel to the Amazon and are taken hostage by cannibals.
