Warner Bros has been trying to make a live action version of the fantasy ELFQUEST for over twenty years and came close earlier in 2012 but the project sadly fell apart. Now Stephanie Thorpe and Paula Rhodes, a couple of ELFQUEST fans, have purchased the rights themselves after making a well-received ELFQUEST short a while back (watch it HERE). Their plan is to launch an independent feature film based on the property which they announced at the recent American Film Market.

Created by Richard and Wendy Pini in the late ’70s, ELFQUEST follows a tribe of Elves who find themselves driven from their forest by humans and discover other Elves in the process. Very much the sort of fantasy plot that is in vogue right now. Interestingly enough the comics started independently and were purchased by several different publishers including Marvel and DC at various points. For all those who don’t know or have never heard of all this it’s worth noting that ElfQuest.com still pulls in 10 million hits a month.
