Ever wondered whatever happened with the rumoured Daredevil reboot of a few years ago? You’re not the only one. At present, David Slade’s Hannibal TV series is set for its UK debut in a matter of weeks. All could have been so much different for the 30 Days of Night director. All could have been so much more Daredevil

With Twentieth Century Fox’s rights to the cinematic Daredevil property frantically running out a few years ago, Slade was given the chance to make his mark with a Hornhead film. That film would fall apart, with Fox looking to The Grey’s Joe Carnahan to relaunch the Matt Murdock property. In a recent interview, Slade revealed what exactly happened.

Discussing the failed project with Film School Rejects, Slade said, “I remember Joe Carnahan went after the job hard when the rights were about to go. He cut together a pitch video that was great and exciting, but it was kind of sad, because everything in the trailer we had attempted to do. Every single thing.”

Slade went on to say that his movie would have focussed on an early version of DD, even including the original yellow outfit. “The film was going to be set in the ’70s,” he said. “Kingpin is going through New York dealing with the Irish mafia, and there’s Daredevil in the yellow suit. It was all there.”

Maybe one day we’ll get another outing for Matt Murdock and his alter-ego. Maybe he may even turn up somewhere down the line in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Who knows? Here’s hoping that Daredevil doesn’t stay in the shadows for too long.

HANNIBAL airs in the UK from May 2nd on Sky Living.
