Whilst THE OFFICE’s B.J. Novak was confirmed months ago to be a part of Marc Webb’s upcoming THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2, very little is known on just who the actor will be playing. Novak has been speaking to The Huffington Post to give a little more insight into this issue.

He revealed, “I’m in a couple of scenes. Yeah, I was never told whether or not I could say. I can say that I work at Oscorp. And I am someone from the comic books, someone from the original. So, yeah, I’m somebody. I wouldn’t say I’m pivotal, but I’m not an extra, either.”

Personally, and this is purely my hunch, I think that Novak could very well be playing Dr. Otto Gunther Octavius, aka Doctor Octopus. There’s also talk that he could possibly be playing Spencer Smythe, a character that’s been referenced several times in the recent Daily Bugle promotional pieces that have appeared online over the last few weeks. It’s worth noting that Doc Ock’s famous tentacles were glimpsed in the recent trailer that dropped this week. Interesting…

The official synopsis for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 reads:

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a great conflict lies ahead.

It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realise that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.

Released worldwide on 2nd May, 2014, we lucky UK folks get THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 on 18th April, 2014.
