It’s been announced by The Hollywood Reporter that the third of the relaunched STAR TREK movies has added to its writing team. Joining the returning Roberto Orci, the thirteenth overall STAR TREK movie has added Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne.

There’s still no confirmation on a director for STAR TREK 3, although current speculation and reports have ATTACK THE BLOCK’s Joe Cornish, he of THE ADAM & JOE SHOW fame, as the front-runner for the gig. So much so, J.J. Abrams has recommended Cornish for the job himself. After having helmed STAR TREK and STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS, Abrams finds himself a little busy with a certain picture in a galaxy far, far away this time out.

The third of this new STAR TREK series of films is planned for a 2016 release, which ties in nicely to the original show’s 50th anniversary.
