Deadline has reported that Matthew McConaughey is being courted for the role of Randall Flagg in Warner Bros’ upcoming adaption of Stephen King’s sprawling post-apocalyptic novel THE STAND. Flagg is the epitome of evil in King’s novel, one that the studio feel would be well suited for McConaughey, who played the fatalistic Rust Cohle in TRUE DETECTIVE.
THE FAULT IN OUR STARS helmsman Josh Boone is set to direct. Boone is also attached to another upcoming King adaptation, LISEY’S STORY.
While the novel was adapted as mini-series in 1994, it’ll be interesting to see how in compares on the big screen, especially given the glut of post-apocalyptic films in the last decade.
