PUBLISHER: WIZARDS OF THE COAST | RELEASE DATE: OUT NOW
Pre-constructed decks are the lifeblood of Magic: The Gathering. They allow highly-collectable cards from previous releases to become more accessible whilst at the same time providing a point of access for new players. The new set sees Magic return to the land of Zendikar, an ever-shifting magical land that has been recently ravaged by cosmic horrors.
The Sneak Attack set is pre-built deck in the Commander format. That means you have one legendary creature and 99 other cards. Your legendary card is the Commander and sets the style for the rest of the deck. In this case it’s a foil card of Anowon, the Ruin Thief, a rogue who buffs other rogues. Not only that, but he also causes your opponents to lose cards from their deck (because he’s a thief).
The rest of the deck is absolutely crammed with thieves, plotters, shape-shifters and other sneaky types. This is a blue/black deck, which means that it focuses on confounding and slowing down your foes using blue cards and then deals gradual but progressive damage with black cards. There’s a light necromancy theme to the deck, but mostly this set of cards is about dirty deeds, done dirt cheap. Go for the throat quickly and take out as many opponents as you can; this deck isn’t designed for a long drawn-out fight.
This is a decent introduction to the game, although, like most starter sets, it’s light on the rules (that’s what YouTube is for). For experienced players there are plenty of value cards to add to existing decks. Worth a look.
