And so we are in endgame territory here, so we can expect a lot of truths to come out of the woodwork for the final episode as all the secrets are laid bare for each and all the characters.
Very quickly, we learn that Allison didn’t hit the brakes when she saw her sister in the road and we pick up Dylan at the police station, gushing about the fact that Allison is alive and that she stole Lennon’s identity. The only problem is, although Dylan is blurting out all the truth, the police clearly don’t believe him.
Margot and Allison are still convinced that Dylan is the killer, although Margot starts to have doubts about her friend, colluding with Dylan to the point where they then become convinced that Bruce and Allison are the killers, taking out everyone who could have potentially known their secret.
Allison’s mum meets her and realises straight away that it is her, and not Lennon, and shows exactly how easy it was for her to walk away.
Margot tries to record Allison making any kind of incriminating confession and Bruce makes it clear to his ex-wife that she is under real threat if she stays sticking around.
We’re not going to spoil the big surprises here for you, suffice to say that nearly all the characters decide to split up, after all, it wouldn’t be a reimagining of a slasher if some of the old tropes weren’t rolled out to enable the story to hit the right notes.
The final reveal does give us an interesting take on it all, with a mix of mental health with good old-fashioned revenge that is even handily explained by a character during the close credits. It is a fresh, modern take on the whole story, but, spread out over 8 episodes, there are more than enough lulls and too much drama to quantify this as a horror series, albeit with some savage kills.
If you’ve got some spare time over the winter months, you could spend some time on this, but don’t expect a programme that you’re either going to root for the characters or be totally happy with the very contrived sequel set up moment at the end.
