It seems that barely a month goes by without some sort of noisesurrounding a possible sequel to Pete Travis’ stunning Dredd. So with that said…

There’s still nothing concrete on getting a follow-up to the brutal and mesmerising 2012 movie, but Judge Dredd co-creator John Wagner believes that a sequel will be happening at some point.

Wagner told ScreenGeek, “Well, there will be a sequel, I just don’t know when or who’ll do it but it’ll happen.”

We certainly hope so, John.

Additionally, the same interview saw Wagner reveal that the original plan for Dredd was to see Judge Dredd battling the ever-eerie Judge Death. That idea was obviously changed-up before the film came to be, with Wagner explaining that “they wanted more nuts and bolts before they went into the ”, before adding that a TV series may be one way to take any follow-up to Dredd.

Dredd bombed at the box office upon its release but soon became a cult favourite upon its home release. The film was phenomenal and perfectly captured everything a Judge Dredd movie should be.

As for whether a sequel ever happens, that remains up in the air. Star Karl Urban has regularly championed the idea, be it in movie or TV form, and we’ve all got our fingers, toes, and other crossable body parts crossed in the hope that something comes of this eventually.
