Netflix just dropped its first teaser trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s long-gestating Pinocchio reimagining.

A spellbinding stop-motion adaptation of Carlo Collodi’s 1883 novel, the teaser opens with narration by Cricket, voiced by Ewan McGregor: “From my many wanderings on this Earth, I had so much to say about imperfect fathers and imperfect sons, and about loss and love. I’ve learned there are old spirits who rarely involve themselves in the human world,” Cricket continues. “But on occasion, they do… it’s a story you may think you know, but you don’t.”

The teaser then shows Gepetto (David Bradley) carving his child (Gregory Mann) out of wood, as well as brief glimpses at some of the story’s other major characters. Pinocchio boasts an impressive voice cast, among them Tilda Swinton, Cate Blanchett (who recently starred in del Toro’s Nightmare Alley) as Sprezzatura, Christoph Waltz as Count Volpe, Ron Perlman as Podesta, Stranger Things‘ Finn Wolfhard as Candlewick, John Turturro, Tim Blake Nelson, and Burn Gorman.

Del Toro and Mark Gustafson co-direct the Netflix Orginal from a screenplay co-written by del Toro and Patrick McHale.

Pinocchio will enjoy a limited cinema release in November, ahead of its Netflix launch in December. Watch the teaser below:
